For me, the highlight of the tournament was probably Chiellini. He’s a silly, happy kind of fella, especially after England lose. I’d get a Negroni with him.

Gareth Southgate has resigned!
Thing is though: it worked in the case of England too. The results speak for themselves, don’t they? They got the best England have achieved since 1966. I loved Bobby Robson’s side, but even he didn’t manage to guide England to two finals.
My little grain of salt: you are all way too harsh on Southgate, and I wonder why. Let’s admit that everything would have gone wrong for Spain yesterday night: they lose a player on a red card after ten minutes, and get then two early goals against them. England win the Euros. Would the general tone in here be the same, or would he be the second coming?
Anyway, this debate is moot, as he’s gone. Has probably had enough of being made the scapegoat of the nation all the time! 
The standard of opposition is a key factor you have not included in your summing up. The teams previous managers have had to play have often been much better than those Southgate has gone up against.

This is essentially the same argument that was made by the media about Liverpool fans being too harsh on Hodgson and that we needed to cut him some slack and give him more time.
The fans could see that stylistically it was shite and needed to change. Southgate has managed to make mountains out of molehills against the likes of Slovenia and Slovakia in this tournament, USA at the WC and Scotland & Czech at Euro 2020.
He’s lucky he’s got a really talented team that make his results look good, while the system he sets them up in is abject.
It’s essentially the same situation as a top PL club being managed by a guy who is playing bad football, loses all the big games and only “achievement” is an FA Cup run that included beating Stockport County, Colchester United and Barnsley (on penalties) before losing to Wolves.
