Nah. The player’s brilliant; it’s the tactics that were wrong.

I bet they won’t get punished for that as they were breaking UEF’s rule

Oh dear, adding fuel to the fire…

How stupid.

Her forbears were conquistadors for fucks sake!

I would have thought at least one Turkish player should make that team?

Turkey had a few standout performers, but who are we to question WhoScored’s methodology? :man_shrugging:

She has built her career on denying/minimizing/justifying the Argentinian military dictatorship, in particular around the prosecutions of military figures offered in the Dirty War. Libertad Avanza (political party she represents) can only be called a far-right nationalist entity. This is not remotely surprising.

The Undersecretary of Sport called on Messi and the Argentinian FA to issue an apology for the song and has now been fired because no one can tell the world champions what to do :see_no_evil:

Hopefully it doesn’t affect Konate and Mac Alister’s relationship. I’ve now read a lot about the French “unfollowing” their Argentinian teammates and cutting off contact. Apparently it’s actually quite a serious matter for those involved.

This isn’t the first time it has happened. Most people can excuse people in their life saying something unwittingly racist if when called out they realize why it was wrong and show contrition. To then do it again afterwards, and so gleefully that is “I know full well who you are” territory that doesn’t leave much middle ground to take up.

Well, people usually don’t like being insulted.

Wasn’t Macca supposedly not on the bus??

I’ve seen that mentioned in several places.

That is what has been reported, but at minimum there is no footage of him involved. He and Ibou already have a year’s worth of history together. If he tells him that he has never sung the song and disavows it then Ibou wont need to take that on face value, but will have a year’s worth of knowledge about the guy to either buy it or be skeptical of the claim.

No wonder, she’s Javier Milei’s right hand. Another country where the far-right loonies have taken over the asylum, and that leads directly to that kind of uninhibited racism, displayed by clueless football players, but certainly also by all kinds of people in the country.

Brazilian players (among others) playing Argentina have faced thrown bananas, monkey gestures, etc for generations. This really is nothing at all new.

True. But Brazilians also stand at the border and piss in the river so it flows into Argentina for them to drink

Yeah, no love lost between those two. Worth noting that those two rivers flow by two other countries (Uruguay and Paraguay) before that Brazilian piss gets into Argentinian water…

Must be a potent brew by the time it does.
