Ex-player: Jordan HENDERSON

He was a key element. Maybe not the key element.

Also not discounting the role of Klopp in having two workhorses in midfield with Gini and Hendo.

And not discounting Hendo as the captain. He probably should have been England’s captain too at that time were it not for the weird fixation of having Harry Kane as a captain.

De Telegraaf reporting he’s promised Alex Kroes (Ajax’s technical director) that he’ll stay for the rest of the season. Claims his agent told him Ajax wanted rid because of his high salary. After talking to Kroes, he realises that isn’t the case.

Good luck to Hendo. Captained us to the title, made the most of his talent. That’s what I will remember most.

Yes, the Saudi stuff was disappointing, but he won’t be the last person to chase the money. He has been doing quite well for Ajax and without knowing what’s what, it’s hard to say if the latest situation is a bit lost in translation, or more evidence of him being willing to chase the money in Monaco. He has form for enjoying the sunshine and playing in front of a handful of people :joy:

Ok, that was a bit salty. Live your life Jordan, and good luck to you.

Captaining Ajax against Feyenoord today.

Still not clear what the story is here. Was Hendo offered to Monaco or did he put in a transfer request? And why is the journo poking him about it and not ask the Ajax director of football?

Was it his manager next to him that tapped his arm at the end? If so, he left him out to dry for a good while before finally intervening.

Seems to have been an internal conversation had between the club and the player which got leaked to the media.

Ajax are struggling with cash issues and Henderson is probably one of their highest earners. There might have been some discussions had between them on the possibility of Henderson moving to ease up their wage bill.

The media probably twisted it as the player being agitating for the move which isn’t necessarily the case.

So it’s damage control from both the Club’s side as well as the player’s side trying to spin it off as a misunderstanding of sorts.

There is no one key element in Klopp team. That title winning team under Klopp was such a well oiled machine that every single part was key. The balance was well tuned to compensate for every part of the field. That is why 3 seemingly average, not so great midfielders became one of the best midfield trios of all time, not because they were singularly great but they made the rest of the team perform to the maximum.

Another thing about Klopp’s era, you rarely heard of this type of stuff and if you did it was internally done and the player was moved on swiftly.

Ajax has long been a snake pit of a club. It is not clear what has gone on, but it is not uncommon for someone to act in their self interest and then throw someone else to the wolves to take the blame for it.

Shouldn’t have moved to Saudi (selling his soul etc etc)

But , this season as captain for Ajax hasn’t been bad. Looking to win the league.

Hendo is declining to extend his Ajax contract and is looking for a move, possibly to the premier league. Some have mooted him to sign with his boyhood club, Sunderland. But his wage demands may make that difficult.

It’s too bad he’s leaving Ajax. He apparently made a very positive impression there and brought needed professionalism and stability to a club in sore need of it.

Sunderland is back in the PL, this move makes a lot of sense. Was talking to a fan over a round of golf last week and he seems to think it’ll happen.

Sunderland just sold Jobe Bellingham as well

I have no idea about styles of their current midfielders and the financial aspect of it, but it does make sense if it happens.

He’s made enough money in his career to now play for passion if he wants to. I hope he does it.

Agree with all that. Go home. Give your home town club the last of what you’ve got left in your legs. That’s what I hope for Hendo.

Mind you, he will be barking and snapping each week as he watches assorted Premier League midfielders walz past him :joy:

Looking forward to seeing him come up against Herr Wirtz.

Meg!

Oh, I agree. But he also made enough money in his career to forgo a move to Saudi…and we saw what happened there (not that I’m complaining - the club got a nice fee). I’d also note that his wage last year would have covered the wages of 12 Sunderland first team players.

But yes, it would be a nice story for him to go back home.
