Ex-player: Naby KEITA

Injuries can always happen but Keita is next level. He’s also consistently chosen his country ahead of his career here, and a lot of his injury troubles have started by his country playing him when unfit and him getting further injuries.

I’d be curious to wonder what his lifestyle is like outside of football, he doesn’t appear to be of the Mane/Salah vibe who were continually in the gym and doing everything in their power to be fresh and ready.

I think your example of comparing your colleague who has cancer to Keita is not right though.

A better example would be a subordinate of yours without any chronic diseases that somehow manages to spends all his 14 days of medical leave and spend 2 weeks of hospitalisation leave, without fail for every year during the busiest period of the business. Then he comes back to you after the appraisal period is over and ask you why his appraisal is not as good as the rest of the colleague?

To put it in a singlish way to you, you see liao, will not dulan meh?

It’s really, really horrible. A few of the lads here ought to be ashamed of themselves.

If the person is genuinely sick, you would hold it against him? You can, I won’t. Is Keita deliberately injured?

EDIT: You are giving the example as if he is chao keng-ing and if Keita has been like Coutinho who fakes a back injury to get out of playing or to force a move and disrespected us, I would be the first to ask him to get out.

No offence, but if you compare Naby Keita’s average minutes appeared per season so far vs Daniel Sturridge’s average minutes appeared per season, Daniel Sturridge will look like hardtacks compared to Keita.

I think no one can defend Keita’s dreadful injury record and base on that, yes one of the worst 50mil we would spend. Calling that out is ok but asking him to get the fuck out as if he has disrespected the club like some idiots had in the past…I just cannot understand that.

If a person has a weak constitution, fine. If that person takes care of himself and tries his best to prevent himself from being exposed to all sorts of pathogens, fine.

But look at what @Draexnael said, by putting his country consistently above LFC even when he himself knows that he is genuinely unfit to play, what does he says about his respect towards the club, his paymasters?

Look at what Klopp said after the post-match against Man United, that he is shocked that Naby Keita fell out of the squad at the last minute without any warning.

It is not surprising that after what Klopp said, a lot of people will think that Keita’s malingering, given his long list of injuries that has him having lower minutes per season compared to Daniel Sturridge.

That is literally not how international football works.

The country FAs have the right to assess the player, and if they deem him fit to play then he plays. The player can refuse to play against the advice of the international medical staff, but Naby would be potentially subject to action at domestic level in that case.

The whole thing relies on cooperation between Liverpool and Guinea, but as he is Guineas star player, they are going to play him and play him injured if necessary. They have done this before and will do it again.

The word coming out of the club this morning is that Naby has had a serious injury and the club are deeply concerned about it.

Maybe if the club acted accordingly years ago with these injury freaks that keep happening, they wouldn’t now be in a position where they need to worry or be concerned.

What we’re seeing is a repeat of the 20/21 season, injuries left right and center disrupting any real rhythm we’re trying to build up.

Roll on the World Cup.

And its not always true that Keita is recklessly prioritizing country over club. Earlier this year, he was withdrawn from international friendlies because he was assessed injured. If he was assessed fit, that is not much the club can do. The player can refuse to play of course but in a country like Guinea and with Keita’s status in the country, refusing to play for country when assessed healthy will cause a uproar and uproars in those regions will not be contained to people hurling insults at him on a forum, there will be threats to him and his family so its not as so clear cut as we think. We had issues previously with our Brazilian players too getting releases earlier to play in our matches but the national football team just said, nope and what can we do? Why not we tell the players, hey just refuse to play to Alisson and Fabinho? But we won’t and its not as if we can influence this. There are rules that Fifa puts into place regarding international football release.

He could quit international football, he has choices. If my country was continually playing me when I wasn’t fit and causing me long term damage I’d be fucking them off.

When it is kinda obvious that a player is at serious risk of injury without proper rehabilitation, is there any recourse for the club and player who inevitably gets fucked by the irresponsible country FA?

The player could openly say that he is crocked and not fully fit to play and he knows his own body. Heck, he can even show a medical specialist’s letter to state that he is not fit to play and requires a period of rehabiliation. However, Naby Keita chose to be silent, putting his country above himself and his club.

It is akin to jumping into a hole filled with WWII bombs, hoping it might not explode.

Every person is different. But for argument’s sake, let’s take a view at the population level.

Maybe from your country, the majority of people may take your stance. In another country/culture, maybe the majority attitude could be vastly different.

The best part? “Out from nowhere”.

Last week, it was illness. What sort of illness is that?

Food poisoning or covid.

If it is Covid, it will be announced as Covid…

Correct, I’m just saying my personal view.

Oh damn, it’s so dark here :face_with_spiral_eyes:

I think it’s pointless to get pissed about the brittleness of Keita. We know about it and we have to accept it. It’s possibly his last season with us, let’s just hope he is useful for us.

Apparently we should support only those who are available all the time and deliver the goods on a consistent basis. God help them if they decide to leave the club though; that’s reserved only for the ingrates who can’t stay fit. In fact, if a player happens to get injured on the club’s dime, we should fuck him off as soon as possible.

I share the frustation with Keita’s injuries but some of the comments are out of order. He was called a parasite in the match thread. Not to mention the numerous insinuations over the years that he’s doing it on purpose. As if doing rehab is a ball of fun. If there are people who actually think that, they should read Gomez and Van Dijk’s interviews on how much they enjoyed their time out on their respective injuries. Hint, they absolutely hated it.

These posts aren’t just horrible, they are despicable and embarrassing.
