Ex-player: Sadio MANÉ

From that it suggests someone staying if I’m honest. I think if a deal had been thrashed out we would hear more than just one source. Might be totally wrong but he seems he was blindsided and the smile suggests he will. I guess we will next week.

Quite a bit of chatter in the last hour about Sadio and Bayern. Doesn’t sound great.

EDIT: but of course it’s all just media driven. BILD is reporting, however no official ‘source’ other than that.

Personally I don’t believe it. Timing of rumours also appears somewhat odd to me.

Agree on both. The timing is shit and reeks of stirring trouble in our camp just prior to the biggest match.

As an aside, I have no idea where all of this Kane link to Liverpool is coming from either. Sounds like fan-fiction but silly season is upon us I suppose. :see_no_evil::see_no_evil::see_no_evil::see_no_evil:

Kane who?

Andy Hunter at The Guardian seems to think he’s staying.

Are we holding off on contract announcements just in case we need a positive news pick me up next week. No distractions until the season is over.

If the news was good, it would be great to announce it before the final, as with Mo, in order to show unity and boost morale.
I fear that keeping it for afterwards is a negative sign. Don’t see why he’d go to Bayern though.

Tallies with what Kopstar said a few days ago about positive contract news.

Sure, although I was told there’d be news before the final.

Possibly. I dont understand though if thats the case why the Klopp news was released prior to the FA cup.

If it’s positive news (re Mané) it makes very little sense not to say so now. It would certainly be less distracting than not saying anything and allowing speculation to continue.

If Sadio’s “special” news is that he’s staying, then I don’t see the sense of waiting until after the final. If it’s good news for LFC, then let’s have it before the final so there isn’t any uncertainty hanging over the team. But then he says this which makes it seem like he’s staying or indeed re-signing:
“But come back to me on Saturday and I will give you the best answer you want to hear, for sure. It’s special. I will give you all you want to hear then.”

Here are his words on the subject from the BBC piece:

Sadio Mane says he will give a “special” answer over his Liverpool future after Saturday’s Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich have both been linked with Mane, 30, who enters the final year of his contract in June.

However, Liverpool are hopeful of retaining the Senegal forward who has already won the Africa Cup of Nations, Carabao Cup and FA Cup this term.

“I think the answer I can give you now is I feel very good,” said Mane.

"I am fully focused on Saturday’s game, that is the answer I must give before the final. But come back to me on Saturday and I will give you the best answer you want to hear, for sure. It’s special. I will give you all you want to hear then.

“I love what I am doing and I sacrifice myself all the time. I am working hard every single day on the pitch and in the gym and I get better and better, that’s the most important. I am trying my best to help the team.”

Alongside fellow forwards Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, who turn 30 and 31 in June and October respectively, Mane has been integral to Liverpool’s success in recent years.

The trio helped the club win the Champions League in 2019 and then end a 30-year wait for a top-flight title in the following season.

However, all three can leave for free next summer, with Mane preferring not be drawn on his future when asked what would happen if Real, who can start negotiating from January 2023 as an overseas club, were to approach him.

“Good question, but what I want to say now is I am fully focused on the Champions League and winning it, which is far more important for me and the Liverpool fans,” he said.

"I will do everything absolutely possible to win the game for Liverpool.

“I think we all forgot about what happened in 2018. For sure Real Madrid were the better team then and deserved to win the game, but it is going to be a different game.”

His “special” message is that he’s joining Bayern Munich next season… but he’s donating 100% of his wages, signing fees and agent fees to Liverpool, by way of compensation.

Not.

I think I agree on waiting. it’s a case of let’s focus on the final, we can talk about me after the final. He’s basically said he is signing a new contract without actually saying he’s signing a new contract.

Maybe the special answer is he is signing a new contract and will retire from international duty at the World Cup.

That or he is Batman. It says that “I must give” so maybe the club is holding it back. I think the club would want more than 30m euros and I think Bild are guessing.

I can see how it means he will and I can see how it means he wont. Half empty/half full.

However see what we are discussing, we are discussing Mane’s contract and not our third euro final in 5 years

I think we/Mane is holding back even though it’s good news so that the media focus doesn’t revert back to Salah or some other player.

Not sure I recall a Liverpool player announcing that they’ve extended their contract before it’s been announced officially by the club.
The special news could be just the same as Salah’s - staying next season and running the contract down (really hope not of course) :frowning:
