Ex-player Trent Alexander-Arnold

Imagine he ends up playing for Newcastle United and Man U

Precisely this. Remember everyone writing of Mbappe not just this time last year but probably during the whole first half of the season? I wonder what those people are thinking now. They are not stupid, they didn’t work for years on signing him on a free, only to bench and flip him.

The biggest mistake Trent might (and I say might because I’m sure he’ll work to try and get into the first team) have made with this move, is going to a club that could afford to pay full price for him but would never have gone for him if they had too.

That it was a vanity signing that didn’t make them a better team?

I don’t know that anyone grumbling about the move was ever questioning Mbappe as a player but more the sense in Real putting so much into getting it done.

Trent has gone there with a narrative already written. Real are a soap opera of a club with a fan base always looking for a convenient scape goat they can absolutely hammer. When a high profile players with question marks about an element of his game lands there it is cat nip for that element of the club and so he is now, after a couple of dodgy appearances, exactly where it was always set up to get to.

To be honest, you can just swap the names and the meaning will be the same. I fully agree with your assessment of what they are as a club and what kind of support they are built on but at the end of the day, they are very good at making such players work. Yeah, it might affect the balance of the side and upset some players who are already there but who cares as long as they are doing what they’re brought in to do.

I’m sure Mbappe doesn’t care about the balance of the side - he’s been scoring for fun since the turn of the year. I imagine the same will happen with TAA once he lays a few goals on the plate for them in quick succession.

i still wish the young man the very best…

YNWA and all that and provided many happy memories…

maybe its just the stage i am in in my life, but go and conquer the world young man…best of luck

Feels like the game is being turned into rehash of the pre-summer Trent show. So bored of it now. Loved him as a player and he gave us great memories, but he’s not our concern anymore. Be best if fans just ignored him tonight instead of abusing or lauding

It seems an odd way to show your support: vandalising the side of a fellow fans house.

I love seeing the murals when I’m in the city. It would be a great shame if artists were put off creating them.

It’s ā€œLa Rata,ā€ you idiots.

I have no axe to grind with him. He was part of a wonderful side and played his part in creating some great memories for the club. He decided to go and work somewhere else, so all the best to him I say. Thanks for the good times.

I agree, defacing someone’s house is an odd way of expressing a certain point of view, and let’s hope that any abuse projected at Trent doesn’t inspire him to produce something special against us during the match. Let’s not forget, he also lost his friend in that accident.

It’s pathetic, frankly. I get being annoyed at him leaving, especially the manner in which he left. But he gave 20 years of his life to the club and was a central figure in some of our biggest successes over that time span.

It’s embarrassing to see anyone go so far as to deface his mural. I was embarrassed that he was booed last year.

Just move on, people. Show some class.

Embarrassing then, embarrassing again.

The last mural that was defaced, the culprit was an Everton fan. Just saying.

The media are loving this and just waiting for Liverpool fans to give Trent a hostile reception. I hope we disappoint them and create a fantastic atmosphere to win the game.

Listening to TAW and I definitely think there is a difference in strength of feeling between local fans and us ā€˜outsiders’. Scousers are a passionate people and I respect that :raised_fist:

Same on Redmentv, to them he is an opposition player as was Coutinho and Suarez when they visited with Barca, and the fans were hostile during the game

It depends also, I remember ex-players getting nice receptions.

There is no rule, it can depend on multiple things. Who it is, the context how the story ended, how long ago was it, what’s the game like, is the player starting or coming on/off.

Nothing surprises me anymore, we’ve seen it all.

Each to his own I guess.
