Ex-player Trent Alexander-Arnold

Every time Crouch came back his song was sung by the Kop.
Its not every ex player that gets stick

Really fucking sad about that mural.

He owed us nothing.

Well obviously there’s a difference between players who aren’t good enough and those that positioned themselves as future captains then left a title-winning team

Bit classless, innit. I’m all for a reception in the ground, but some bellend always has to take it too far.

Obviously

obviously done by Everton fans then…

I have to say that I’ve surprised myself at how little I cared about his homecoming (as opposed to Owen and Torres) but I did chuckle a bit when he put in that cross that went out near the corner flag. Liverpool winning games actually makes it easier to forget such stuff, wish they did it more often than in the last two months!

Made even better that it was left to Bradley to Shepard it out

There were numerous players of not great quality who got a nice reception, at least an applause or something. So it’s not only down to quality. Plus, the whole captaincy thing is overblown. You cannot position yourself as a future captain, that is hard to predict. I don’t think nobody told him “you’ll be captain one day”. You either become one at a certain point or you don’t. Regardless how many vice-captaincy roles you had and for how long.

He kept saying that he wanted to captain Liverpool, it was one of his goals/dreams

True, that’s a wish.

You just don’t get it do you from a Scouser point of view, he professed his love, wanted to be captain etc. etc. etc.

Then binned us.

I think I get it from all sides, but of course there are many people with different emotions and levels of passion. Difficult to quantify, but it’s a thing.

I said that the captaincy thing isn’t like it was there waiting for him. Nobody knows what would’ve happened and who would’ve become captain after Virgil (whenever that would be).

Just like nobody (or most) saw Gerrard getting it as early as he did at the time. And he probably also wished it by default, who doesn’t? Some rare cases maybe.

My opinion and feeling is that Trent loves the club and at a certain point decided for something else. I don’t have an issue with what he said in the past and then did. I’m fine with it, if someone else isn’t, it’s alright.

He looked good when coming on in that white RM shirt, but would have looked so much better in red!

The booing could absolutely be expected, and he surely knew what was coming. There won’t be any hard feelings on either side after that. The fans vented their feelings, and Trent got it on the chin, he’s no child anymore.

The fact he played no special role during his short stint helps of course. Had he provided an assist for a late equalizer, it would have been very different.

I’m somewhere in the middle. Agree he loves the club and he gave a lot to it. He decided to move on, which is fine, but how he went about that I do have an issue with. He made the choice to do it that way and he should expect the boos and disappointment from some fans because of that. Would I personally boo him? No. Should he have expected it? Absolutely. That was part and parcel of the choices he made.

We were great for each other.

I also wouldn’t boo him and I agree that he shouldn’t be surprised if he is. And I don’t think he is surprised. And I don’t think it changes much about his feelings for Liverpool.

To put it bluntly, I wouldn’t boo him but I definitely wouldn’t take a photo with him or his autograph given the chance - and that indifference says a lot.

I’m just gutted that it didn’t turn out to be a fairytale of a local lad turning club captain eventually, leading them to more glory etc. Instead, he turned into a football equivalent of Anakin Skywalker.

That said, his performances over the last three years have been wildly inconsistent and we’ll see if Alonso can take care of that. No one is questioning his talent but I don’t think we’ve seen anything from him post-2021/22 that suggested he would become a Balon d’Or candidate or anything even remotely close.

You’ve completely inverted his argument.

Ive a feeling he will want back sooner or later

If Madrid are willing to let him go on a free, then it’s possible. I don’t think we’ll be willing to give them any kind of fee.
