The reaction was more vicious than I expected, but I don’t particularly mind the boos. It’s all pantomime, anyway. I’m sure Owen’s somewhere having a little indignant whinge about it before getting lost in a painfully tedious monologue about his own career and forgetting who Trent is.
I have no problem with booing Trent as an opponent. My thing is that we never should have booed him when he was still playing for us.
My recollection is that Suarez got a nice applause when he was first announced, and then was booed mercilessly thereafter. Sterling was booed from the go because of how he left. Coutinho wasn’t booed when he was playing for us even when he clearly was agitating for a move to Barca - even with a fake back injury. Then he sucked so much at Barca that I don’t think anyone cared enough to boo when he came back with them.

‘Pantomime villains’ thread?
Doesn’t bother me whether he got booed or not. Some quarter of fans think he deserves it and has every right to do that. At this point of time, he is just an opposition player to me. As far as ex players are concerned, he is not a rat like Suarez’s level but he certainly shouldn’t be expecting red carpets like some other players who left will receive when they come back
Body language specialists and “who interacted with each other post-match” analysis. Maybe they talked in another moment? In the Inside Anfield video you see plenty of Liverpool players or Liverpool related people having a word with him.
