Axel Hesse was always very reliable when it came to Leverkusen news, but who knows if there is still a connection to Alonso, it’s possible.
Yep it ain’t rocket science, the coach has to have a good amount of input as it is their head on the line.
I wouldn’t imagine any coach/manager has ever had full control even, Jurgen or Fergusson.
I think, Xabi Alonso become at summer the new manager
My only reservation is he played 3 at the back with wing backs at bayer. I hate that. Has not won a thing in the PL. I know we have the players but it always has 5 defenders and width from defenders. Less attackers and no specialists out wide.
I know if was flexible and fluid at Bayer but…..
And then he played 4 at the back at Real. Frimpong played much higher than Grimaldo, for example. Also, plenty of coaches who haven’t won in the PL before they eventually did.
Didn’t Chelsea win the league under Conte with 3 CB’s and Wing Backs, or did he change formation that season?
He initially planned to go and went 4-4-2 (though a very offensive version of it that looked almost 4-2-4 at times), but the balance wasn’t good, he switched to 3 at the back and the rest is history.
Okay. Fair enough. Flexible. I am sold ![]()
I cannot be 100% sure, but I feel he wouldn’t be fixed on a formation like Amorim was at United. Yes, he would have Frimpong and Wirtz here and also two strikers, but I feel if he takes over, he would keep us in a back 4.
There was some creep over time though. When he came in he talked about having first and last say, but no desire to do all the scouting himself. I always interpreted that as he identified a need and signed off the final decision.
By the time he left, he was definitely more engaged in sourcing the players he wanted and bring in specific names.
He was quite canny about it. He started off playing a back four, let them struggle and then brought in the back three when they needed results.

In short…
- Xabi Alonso’s Premier League move (post-Real Madrid) was fixed for summer, but recent talks show he’s now open to starting earlier, even in coming weeks.
- Discussions with ex-Leverkusen players Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong (now at Liverpool) highlight how his mid-season arrival there built quick success and authority.
- Assistant Sebastián Parrilla is central; the shift favors faster implementation over a full break.
- Liverpool dressing room has little clarity on next steps amid Champions League focus and uncertainty.
- Parallel: Jurgen Klopp hinted at a possible short-term interim return to Liverpool via Bayern/Telekom channels.
- Club is exploring paths, though Arne Slot retains backing from some insiders.

Part 2
ITKSpace? Walshy has franchised his operation now?
After being banned, he gets a new identity ![]()
So Alonso’s timeline might shift, and he could possibly come in before the end of the season, if called upon?
Interesting.
Sadly I think none of it can ever be fully proven so it’s a classic ITK type social media post.
And by the time he writes his memoirs no one will remember ITKspace.
Parallel: Jurgen Klopp hinted at a possible short-term interim return to Liverpool via Bayern/Telekom channels.
It would have been more believable if this part had been left out.
Well, okay, you couldn’t possibly know this, but Klopp is under contract with Magenta TV/Telekom as a pundit for the World Cup this summer. He’ll be in the USA together with Thomas Müller and Mats Hummels. There have already been plenty of interviews, trailers, etc. about this here in Germany , and that will surely be the connection being discussed.
I can’t imagine it either, but when asked, he didn’t rule out being a coach again this time.
There is one sentence in that tweet with 19 commas!
