Lol. Lmao, even.
Why assume he was even approached by us? I wasn’t particulary keen on him coming and not bothered where he goes..
Because we did approach him after Jürgen left and he wasn’t ready to move then and this time around, whether it’s through his agents or other back channels, he let it out in media that he would be very much interested in becoming the manager of Liverpool football club. The journalist who covers transfers on Sky Sports was very clear about this message. I think his name is Kaveh.
Must be true then…
A lot more likely than what you are suggesting given all the noise in the media. And I’m not talking about fan generated social media output.

Gutshot.
Awesome… let’s move on ![]()
He was reverred as some sort of Messiah to take us forward, and he ended up choosing plastics.
Interesting thing is he is given the manager role, which wouldn’t have been possible here,as power lies with dumb and dumber(Hughes n Edwards).
It’s actually stunning how I was able to convince myself that we’d spoken to Xabi behind the scenes - even using the lack of noise about his next job (prior to this Chelsea thing obv) as evidence that we’d got something sorted out that would be announced in due course - when it’s now clear, from what Gerrard has said, that we never approached him. In all likelihood, we never even considered him.
How did I convince myself? Well, by assuming that we were run by competent, intelligent people able to see the reality of a given situation divorced from emotion or ego, people that would be willing to admit mistakes were made if they could be corrected by then making a correct decision. People who wouldn’t let stubbornness or the refusal to admit they done fucked up get in the way of doing what was clearly best for the club.
This has shown how utterly deluded I was for giving the club even an iota of credit that it knows what it’s doing. Quite frankly we’re a farce being run by stubborn idiots who are seemingly praying Slot can turn it around despite all the evidence to the contrary, just so they can turn around and tell the fans I told you so.
I’m gutted about Xabi, of course I am, he was my no1 candidate to take over from Klopp never mind to swoop in and save us from the lethargic apathy of Slot’s Liverpool.
But beyond that the greater issue is the decision-making process of the people being paid by the club to make decisions that benefit the club, not serve themselves, their own reputation and/or ego.
And it’s this that makes me most deeply worried for our future.
You either get rid of the deeply unlikable players we’ve assembled or get rid of the deeply unlikable head coach.
Save us, Jürgen. Unless…

He isn’t the only manager we could replace Slot with. I don’t get this idea that he’s this guaranteed home run option to fix all our woes.
Him going to Chelsea isn’t evidence of anything other than them needing yet another manager.
Sorry what? Who in our squad is deeply unlikeable?
And then in the same breath of talking about deeply unlikeable players and head coach you throw Simeone into the mix as a solution?
Think some people’s heads have gone here.
Yep, power plays and egos, that’s all it is now. Congratulations.
Last season’s title might have gone to the head of a few too many people.
Let’s get Luis Enrique
It’s fine for me.
Alonso going to Chelsea isn’t necessarily something I thought would be his next move, but it’s not like it’s a shock, either. I also don’t think he’s necessarily finished if he doesn’t do something there or doesn’t stay long.
I’d still be open for him to end up here if our paths cross another time and it makes sense for both sides.
He has a new career now and why should he reject the calibre of clubs that are coming for him. There are not hundreds of them. He said he doesn’t want a break from the job, but how last summer went, it will be better for him to have a pre-season (albeit a “WC” one).
And no, it changes nothing how I view him or remember him in terms of his connection with us.
Chelsea fans seem delighted to get one over on us… they don’t realise we never wanted him anyway. We really don’t care. Honestly we don’t…

I still feel sad Xabi has gone to Chelsea.
I understand he has to get a job and all, but with the current turmoil at our club, it just hurts abit more going to our arch rivals.
Unfortunately, he can’t accept a job that he was never offered, and it is pointless sitting around waiting for a dream job to show up that may never materialise.
I wonder what his contract will look like? Presumably 5 years, but will there be a release clause?
Seems that there’s a fair bit being put on the fact Xabi will be their manager and not head coach. Maybe Edwards and Hughes told Xabi he could only be head coach.
Either way, doesn’t surprise me we didn’t get it sorted, and id rather he wasnt going to Chelsea.
