Ex-player: Xherdan SHAQIRI

Yup, it’s kind of glad he stayed, he is known quality rather than potential, we now have something off the bench with him and Jota or if they are rotated with the others.

He looks far more effective in the 10 role with a double pivot behind him; Im another one glad he has been retained.

Comment above yours was regarding Shaq

Why did you say Bobby then?

The one where I say “I think he goes missing” doesn’t mention Bobby?

Nor does the one I quoted. You finished with ‘I miss the old Bobby’.
I was just agreeing with you with a different approach. :+1:

Stay fit and in good mood and hopefully he can show again how useful he can be as a backup/rotation option like he was in autumn 2018 or the middle of 18/19. Still 3 years left on his deal, we’ll see when do we decide to sell. Him playing well will be helpful for all parties involved. Like I said, Origi might still be useful here and there, but honestly when they’re all fit and in, let’s say, normal form… I prefer him ahead of Divock. Simply a more footballing option, we don’t lose possession as much, we can create. Jota now offers not only combining, but going in behind and chipping in with goals as well. We’ve definitely improved our forward depth.

I was dead set against signing him and I was dead wrong. He and Thiago are the only ones who can consistenly make that kind of a pass. Firmino too if he can remember how to play football again.

This video shows what a great pass it was

Hendo running towards Shaq after that and hugging him. My captain!

This pass is incredible. To reach Jota, it needed to be weighed perfectly. Too much weight on it, and the ball would be too fast / Jota couldn’t get to it. Less weight, and it would likely be intercepted or hoofed away. The ball starts very fast, but then loses pace when Jota closes in.

The move and the pass are perfection, an absolute beauty.

I’m just glad the ball didn’t brush against one of Mane’s leg hairs!! VAR would’ve ruled it to be offside.

Shaqiri is such an enigma. I think his entire career is blighted by injuries and (perhaps resulting from the injuries) inconsistencies. I was always fond of him and I was so happy when we signed him. I hoped he would become a Robertson like signing.

Whenever he is on song, this guy is just silky. Although most will notice his robustness, there’s nothing physical in his play. It’s all deft and sleek. I hope he has a great season even if it’s 15mins here, 30mins there. I’m telling you, we will walk the league if he keeps playing like this.

I love Mané’s statue stance. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I mentionned before how Shaquiri immediately turned toward Henderson. I wonder if there’s something going on there? :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

His body will let him down again I’m sure of that so it’s a case of make the most of him while we can. Very gifted player. Not many would have had the vision to see that pass to Jota, let alone actually pull it off.

He was channelling his inner Harry Maguire.
