So, do we know what’s wrong with him yet? Appeared to be training ok a couple of days ago.
Apparently he didn’t even know… whatever it is it could be anything to be honest. You do wonder if it’s Covid and he doesn’t want it disclosed.
Though he did have that false positive.
From what is known to the public, he trained until Saturday. So it can’t be a tear, maybe some soreness or stiffness. Fingers crossed.
Klopp said he got injured with Switzerland but they didnt realize it until he had some sessions at Liverpool.
Every time he is badly needed he is unavailable.
Thankfully we didn’t badly need him last night! Although I imagine if he were there, Klopp might have taken off Jota or Mane a bit earlier than the 88th.
Hoping he can start on Weds, as ideally Jota or Mane are rested.
Neil Jones suggested that he and Keita might be facing longer layoffs, though it should be weeks, not months.
More opportunity for Curtis Jones,he’s turning into a very reliable and consistent player for us.
Would love an update on Big Shaqs. Physio Table only says he had a scan after participating in training which revealed an injury he suffered from 5 or 6 days prior.
Try contacting the Secret Service. There’s more chance of an update from them, than from the LFC medical team.
With injuries you know they are close if the offal post a photo of them in team news until then you better ignore anything else.
WBA: unused sub
Newcastle: 1 min
Southampton: 33 mins
Villa Kids: 29 mins
Look at those minutes, and it’s not like we have been rocking in those games either. I think there’s some serious tentativeness about using him more rigorously. A fine player on his day.
He’s good coming off the bench when the game is going in 1 direction, us either trying to break down a side or are winning comfortably. He does have the final ball aspect, it’s what he likes. You almost never see him attack space. When fit and in normal form, I prefer him off the bench than Origi (who does bring something different and pops up with a goal, but that is also… not often enough).
Yeah, he has been bought as an option off the bench. But he hasn’t been used extensively even by that standard.
He needs to stay fit, he is an excellent player and exactly the type we need against low block teams. Him being an option for the rest of the season will be huge.
He fizzes passes forward quickly, yes he’ll turn over possession but when you are litterally camped outside their box its such a low risk. He has quick feet, he has great vision (he sees similar passes to Thiago). That technicality is such a huge positive.
Pitty he is probably the worst corner taker I’ve seen, they never go past the first man… But when you are 5 foot nothing I guess it looks the right height for him!
Stay fit for fucks sake…
He looked class in his sub appearance on Friday, and that’s what I want from him and I think it’s a role that suits him.
As someone who can come on in the past twenty and take advantage of tiring opposition, I think he’s a great option. But I think he needs that space, so I don’t really see him as a starter.
When he is in form, he is really good. He was very good when he came on last game. But last season, when he was not injured, he wasn’t particularly good the few times he came on.
For me he is a bit of a question mark. I like his player type, he seems like an okay fellow, has obvious skill, but is usually injured and his spells of being very good are very short.
I hope he can stay healthy for a period of time now, since he looked to have pretty decent form last game.
Shaqiri played the equivalent of 3 full matches last season and was very good against Everton. He was subbed on a number of times - 1 minute, 1, 3, 5, 6, 11.
I’m not sure this is fair.
Last season, at the time when he was primed to get more involved, he got injured yet again.
And that’s basically the story of his time with us - being patient for a chance, but when the chance arises and Klopp is looking for a squad player to come into the first 11, he’s on the treament table.
Either that or he comes on, plays well as a sub in helping break down a team, and then out of the next five squads due to niggles.
So… what was the word back in 2018, he’s versatile?
It was 2021 today and it’s the first time he started on the left for Liverpool and probably even going back to his earlier Bayern days, when naturally his ego was lower and he accepted even being on the pitch. Let’s for a moment realize that Bayern and Liverpool are not Stoke or Switzerland. That is clear to everyone hopefully.
Today it was like this change was the symbol and start of so many illogical moves.
Brighton started with White at RCB, someone who struggled a lot defensively on the outside this season and March, a left footer at RWB (like they were preparing to defend Mane). What did our left side attacking look like in the first half? Shaqiri standing just in front of Robbo. Nice.
We ended the first half with Shaqiri in Bobby’s central role and then he went to the right side in the second half. We end the game trying to recover from a goal down with James Milner as a single 6 and Origi in the central up top role. No wonder we failed, especially with Mo’s two missed chances (especially the first one).
