Do not start him again unless it’s absolutely necessary. The odd moment of excellence does not justify him starting for a side trying to win the title.
1 good pass in his 3 starts, that’s about it. Use him as an impact player, not from the start, he’s far too easy to mark out the game.
I can get him being ineffective outwide, he really doesn’t suit the position he was asked to play… What pissed me off the most is their goal is basically because he just stands there watching Burns run 70 yards to win that header. That’s where that goal starts and he could have directly impacted it by chasing down Burns and jostling with him over the 60 yards. Lazy.
Yeah, although he’s not totally to blame for goal, his laziness there contributed to it. Shaq was positioned on the right wing at that point. The lanky Brighton left back made that run all the way to the byline, while Shaq was just dawdling back not even breaking into a jog.
Klopp should’ve played him as at WH at the tip of the diamond.
I like Shaqiri, I really do. He is a fantastic player on his day, or more like on his 30 minute spell. He can be sublime, sometimes. He got pace and power but he isn’t a physical type. Got really nice and intelligent movements.
But since signing for Liverpool he has been really patchy, to be generous. Yes there are those games, moments more like, where he mesmerized us and the opposition in equal measure. But like I said, those are moments.
Beyond those moments he is just anonymous or abysmal. The Origi syndrome is becoming increasingly acute, his heart is barely in the game.
He was also directly responsible for Gini’s yellow with the dumb and lazy back pass.
And I agree with you @Iftikhar, I do really like Shaqs, quite a bit actually, but his inconsistency is a bit maddening given his experience and capability. He has turned down multiple moves (according to several journos) but never really consistently makes a case for himself to get extended looks or minutes. Just my opinion.
Fear not - once Jota is fit, and our central midfielders are back in central midfield, he won’t be getting a starting berth, and instead be what he’s best at for Liverpool, an impact sub.
The fact neither of them got in the box once is just poor on all levels. Why keep dropping deep when you have Thiago behind. It’s playing to no ones strength at all.
That’s not true either, he is a bundle of energy, if you don’t notice he’s on the pitch there’s something wrong with you.
He can at times be useless though, a useless bundle of energy.
Brighton wasn’t his fault though i blame that on Millie and Gini not being up to it after their efforts against Spuds.
