Ex-player: Xherdan SHAQIRI

Yeh, It’s just a shame it wasn’t Shaqiri’s left foot on the end of that chance that Firmino put way over into the Kop.

He has played (starts & subs) in 12 of our last 14 games. During that period we managed four wins and he had substantial contributions only in the FA Cup game against Villa (kids). Struggling!!!

Played 75 minutes in a 3-1 win with Swiss

Didn’t see the game, but he seems to have played well. Sensible also from Petkovic to take him out after 75 minutes. The game was won, and it would have been pointless to run him into the ground, considering his past injury troubles.

Hopefully he’ll stay fit and healthy throughout this international period, fingers crossed!

Scored against Lithuania last night.

First goal for Switzerland in almost 3 years.

It was very well-taken to be fair. Also, during the first half, he looked the Shaqiri of old with the national team in terms of influence on the game. Every time a chance was created, he was involved with a key ball, and there were many: 22 shots on target… it should have been a cricket score to be fair. He also worked a lot for the team in his pressing, and that’s definitely the Klopp/LFC influence. He looks leaner and fitter now. More the player he was when at Bayern than the one who came to LFC from Stoke.

On the other hand, he lost a bit of his composure during the second half because his team-mates were unable to apply some clinical finishing from his balls (some of the misses were laughable) and also became less and less precise in their passing. He came off at the 75th minute.

The most important thing: he came through two games with 2x75 minutes played without injuring himself. Hopefully he can keep it up. A fully fit Shaq can still bring a lot to LFC, even if only from the bench.

Let’s not jinx it, shall we! There’s still one round of games to go.

Yeah, I know…

Played 45 minutes against Finland yesterday night, and was at the heart of everything Switzerland did well during that first half. 65% of Gavranovic’s opener is due to him. He had a lot of energy to offer, pressed everywhere on the pitch and came back defending when needed.

Again an encouraging performance from the lad, and Petkovic did the right thing by playing him 45 minutes, similarly to what he did with all of his key players during this friendly.

I’m actually a bit pissed that he was used at all. It was a friendly and the manager could have done with his fringe players. But yeah, Shaqiri has been used wisely during this break.

Whats happened to Shaq? Looking fit and contributing for the Swiss but finally gets a chance against the baggies and he almost didn’t look like a professional footballer? Something is definitely wrong here.

Last few times he has come off the bench he has just looked poor.

Another we need to move on sadly.

I really liked this guy. But he now pisses me off.

He plays really well for Switzerland but becomes utter crap for us. I heard he wants regular games and is pushing for a move.

He gave us some great moments. Thank you, good luck, and good riddance.

The problem with Shaqiri is he is a good player to come off the bench. You cannot play him consistently for 90 mins for a few games in a stretch because -

a. He’s never fit to do so
b. He is very inconsistent and disappears for majority of games when started

He creates one or two moment of brilliance that seems to become a highlight for that game but that’s about it. I liked him and hoped he would improve under Klopp but he needs to be fit first to improve the second part of what I highlighted above, which ain’t happening.

I think he was bought to be an impact substitute and occasional rotation. He did pretty well during his early years. But this season he was crap.

He’s very fucking irritating in our shirt, there’s a really good footballer in there but he’s left it in the gym.

His season mirrors Sturridge in 18/19. Managed to stay fit for a decent amount of time, a couple of good performances and contributions at the start of the season which offer renewed promise but he’s since gone on to be terrible almost every game he’s played.

He needs shifting. He’s too slow and his movement is non-existant.

That pass out of play near the end when he turned back onto his left was hilarious. Almost didn’t have someone offering for a pass (I hate it when they all go forward and just wait, it’s not offensive anymore but counterproductive), but was still a facepalm moment.

A Turkish journalist working with Italian media – Ekrem Konur – says that the same names who have been linked previously remain keen: Sevilla and Roma. In addition, Lazio are in the hunt and Fenerbahce remain interested, too.
