It reminded me of the time Renato Sanches passed to the Vitality dog on the electronic advertising boards. (Or something similar)
Reminded me of that Iago Aspas corner.
Edwards after tonightâs game
Shaqiri stands out in mediocre teams usually against less than mediocre teams. I hope we donât get caught up in the hoopla. Sell sell sell!
Very happy to Shaqiri showcase his skills and raise his transfer offer. Assume Wilson and/or Elliot will replace his role on our bench.
Edwards tonight;
Heâs a very good player. Just doesnât fit our system somehow
He was injured so often and could not really play regularly that I am really a little surprised why this is apparently not an issue with Shaqiri, but with others it is.
Heâs good enough for Switzerland, but not Liverpool.
Yeah, Switzerland and Stoke are not the same as Liverpool. The Swiss are a team that is very well built, makes a lot of sense. Consistent in getting past the group stages. Shaqiri allowed to play in his #10 role centrally. Heâs a key player for them. Here, the level is a bit higher for him to earn that.
Shaqiri had a great Euro, so happy for him.
I have noticed that Shaqiri shifts to another gear while playing for the NT. I think he finds it easier to stay focused on a bunch of games and just canât spread his efforts over several months of a season. Even in individual games, I found him to be more productive coming in as sub compared to when he starts.
I think he wants to, and should be, leaving. He was tremendous for us in some very important games and I wish him all the best.
Well⊠I thought that heâd maybe wait a further year before moving, but this seems to gather pace (quotes confirmed by Swiss papers).
I canât blame him, the three forward places are firmly in Salahâs, Bobbyâs and ManĂ©âs feets, and itâs unlikely to change. Jota is further up the pecking order and can play everywhere along that frontline when required. So, itâs logical that he wants to play more regularly, if necessary somewhere else.
In my book, he did his back-up role well enough while with us. Injuries played their part to hinder his emergence as a player who could put more genuine pressure on the three, but it was always going to be hard for him to dislodge them anyway. Still, when fit, he always had his moments with us, and helped us to get some important wins (ie. scoring a double against the Mancs at home, assist for Gini against Barca in the 4-0, among a few others⊠last season, he provided a superb 40-yards assist for Mo to score the winner, canât remember against whom it was).
He will go for a similar fee we bought him for. At 29, itâs his chance to find a club offering him more playing time. Fair enough, no complaints from me.
I wonder how the club will compensate for that loss of strength in depth.
Elliott and Jones.
His overall contribution has been negligible since he joined. Aside from a handful of moments, I think he has to go down as a disappointment. Although I never expected him to be more than a cover player anyway as heâs very overrated based on his overall career.
Our consolation prize after the Fekir transfer fell through. Iâve never been convinced that JK fancied him much and he doesnât really fit our style but I like him.
Iâll believe heâs leaving when I see it. Looked to me to be getting comfortable as a bit part player with questionable fitness and on a decent wage. Maybe the Euros has encouraged him to seek out more regular starts. Weâre in danger of getting ourselves in a mess over non-homegrown players and need to sell/loan before we can bring more in so I really hope heâs going, assuming someone is actually coming in.
Elliot is just 18, isnât he⊠As talented he surely is, heâs no match for Shaqiri yet in terms of physicality and experience. He has yet to show that he has what it takes to be a reliable back-up for one of the forward roles. Jones is surely one who is about to break into the squad as a regular, but heâll surely be used rather as a central midfielder, rather than one who operates from the right or the left wing?
Is that how you spell Mbappé???
I was actually going to comment that Jones probably saw to Shaqiriâs role being usurped, but then again the Elliott shout isnât too bad. Presumably the management staff saw something that led them to think that we already had replacements ready for Shaqiriâs minutes, not Elliott solely but also very much via Jones.
one who operates from the right or the left wing
Shaqiri doesnât really do that much for us anymore anywayâŠ
Shaqiri doesnât really do that much for us anymore anywayâŠ
Yeah, last season, bar one or two moments, was really one to forget for him.
