FA Cup 2021-22... Hope we are up for the cup this season...forlorn hope?

The problem with the great 19th century tradition of the FA Cup is the damn refs calling the matches as if the 19th century rules are still in effect. Too many games have just been played on the edge, it just isn’t worth derailing another competition to chase after it.

They have kept that stupid system? :person_facepalming:

Only up to the 4th round…I think the replays in the early rounds are a big part of the appeal for me. A lower league side getting an away draw and taking the big boys back to their ground or vice versa. We forget that 99.9% of Football is played below the Premier League. Let’s not get too precious…

Personally I love to see Premier League sides having to scrap it out against the Scunthorpes of this world. Bring it on…

I get your point. I think for Cup games the host should always be the lower-ranked club.

I forget which League 2(?)club it was maybe a decade ago whose chairman was as delighted with a home draw against one of the PL clubs as he would have been with a win, because the split gate was worth about a quarter of their league season ticket revenue.

Yeah gates for the lower league teams can cover the cost of running the club for a season.

2nd round weekend so we get to find out our opponents in the cup on Monday

Sorry to Boreham vs St Albans I couldn’t get you on the image, however you’ll get Man City in the 3rd round so it’s a pay day of sorts

We need a win. Draws are no good to us. City won’t drop many points.

At Anfield!!!

Against a club we’ve never played before.

Or the club we haven’t played for the longest.

Or the smallest / poorest out of the possible.

I would prefer an away game if we are playing a small/poor club. The gate-money would make a difference to them.

I think they get more proceeds by having an away game at a big club than having a big club play at their home ground.

Yeah they will get more money with a away tie than a home one.

Will depend on TV mind.

FFS, not Everton again.

Gate is split 50/50, and while LFC usually doesn’t take their share for away matches with smaller clubs, an Anfield sell-out is more revenue than most non-league clubs get in a year.
