Fabio "FABINHO" TAVARES: 2020/21

McBurnie’s right foot is on the line, so it counts as inside. But I agree, it’s not a foul in my opinion. More no than yes.

All the people who praised his performance against Ajax jinxed him, it seems. He’ll take time to settle into that role, Sheffield test perhaps came a bit too quickly for this defence without Van Dijk, especially considering that majority of their game plan in the first half revolved around booting it to McBurnie and winning the second balls. I thought Fabinho couldn’t match him in the air and that Wijnaldum, Henderson and fullbacks were slow to pick up those second balls. Second half was an improvement in that regard but I hated that Burke went past him easily on a few occasions (he got dragged wide a few times last night trying to cover for Alexander-Arnold, with no real support from midfield).

As he won the ball it shouldn’t have been a penalty and if it weren’t for that we’d have had a clean sheet.

I shat myself on 3 other occassions so my sheet was dirtied anyway.
There’s rules that make just ‘winning’ the ball null and void like reckless and dangerous. In real time Fabinho’s left leg follow through looked like it could be deemed dangerous slow mo replay much less so. I can understand why the foul could be given CB’s need to know how to defend on their feet (I know it’s not common in english fotball but it’s a technique well worth having).

Oh dear. That’s not the first time I’ve said that about a post of his. Reckless and dangerous? https://tse2.mm.bing.net/th?id=OGC.1fd635b9c6f91ee32f61b169ed87d7d8&pid=Api&rurl=https%3A%2F%2Fmedia.tenor.co%2Fimages%2F1fd635b9c6f91ee32f61b169ed87d7d8%2Fraw&ehk=ZkMtKxUR5%2BoatZrd5mR0rXHHYHGsufN0ni84K2OgJpc%3D

“Mah man!”

Not as bad as feared, but he’ll still be out for a week or two. Not something you’d want to risk. Meanwhile there’s West Ham and Atalanta to deal with

Not fun to lose him (and his defensive instinct, as Klopp says) considering the type of opponents we face in November. Atalanta twice, City, Leicester and Brighton. Could be loads of goals.

With the international break he may not miss some of these.
