That’s the Italian shuffle. They do seem to be particularly adapt at exactly that. Must be all the cha-cha-cha.
It’s really bothering me that I can’t remember which game it was because it was beautiful.
EDIT: It was for the second goal against Brentford: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TSh01X-p_k
Given Chiesa is not the speediest of player, perhaps he can play as a CAM while he gets up to speed?
Feel a bit sorry for him as he didn’t get any minutes lately, then we turn to him with at least 20mins to go in a final. Could see he’s a bit rusty in first actions, but took his goal well and nice to see that he’s generally ready to fight and prove himself. Might earn him more minutes in remaining games and then we’ll see what happens in the summer.
Chiesa is deceptively quick. I’ll have to find the speed stats but I would not classify him as “not the quickest.” He’s probably close if not faster than Diaz.
Only Darwin and Dom in our side have ever been clocked as faster than him, and the differences were very marginal. This is true even post ACL. His overall fitness is still a work in progress and there may be other issues with the totality of his mobility and how well he moves, but his actual speed has seemingly not been affected.
…the thing is, Chiesa does it with the ball at his feet…!
He’s certainly someone we could have used in CM I feel at times.
That is really surprising!
I am surprised to hear that! I am even more surprised he is faster than Diaz!
Before his ACL his speed was considered one of his strongest traits. The injury raised the same questions everyone has who does their ACL about whether it robbed him of his pace, but according to the stats it hasn’t. At least not in terms of the top speeds he’s been clocked at by the GPS data. Lots of people think the eye test says differently, and so I suspect the bigger issue is we simply haven’t seen him open up very often/at all in his limited contributions yet.
In cameos he did seem to be able to have the better of most defenders from a stop/start position though caught up in straight speeds.
Though we’ve seen so little it’s hard to judge.
Top Speed
Chiesa - 36.2km/h
Last season - Szoboszlai - 36.76km/h
Previous Season - Nunez - 36.5km/h
Salah in his prime recorded a top speed of 36.6km/h
Chiesa can be a bit slow to realise he’s scored though
Origi replacement?
Chiesa in midfield? No.
Pretty random idea, that.
These players can run faster than I can drive in Snowdonia
An out of form and seemingly on his way out of the club Darwin is making the bench ahead of him.
Both Jota and Gakpo struggling to get back up to speed after injuries are consistently getting picked ahead of him.
Mo in his least productive period of the season and still he’s not getting on or even making the squad.
Surely his time is up? We can’t be carrying players for an entire season in the hopes a pre-season will make the manager think differently about him next season.
Honestly, this is an indictment on Slot and not on Chiesa.
The whole thing is just weird. He’s an established player of unquestionable quality, whom Slot refuses to play. I don’t get it and I don’t think that anyone does either.
Maybe he’ll finally get some minutes after the title is mathematically secured. If not, he’s almost certain to leave.
@mattyhurst pointed out I think that he wasn’t in the training photos.
Yeah I didn’t notice him.
