Federico CHIESA: 2025/26

Considering he didn’t even make the bench for the Everton game he picked a 17 year old over a former Italian international suggests Slot doesn’t really have him in the plans.

If Hugo hadn’t had his fart im betting he would have missed out.

There is a rule that allows you one time to replace a player who is out with a long term injury. It’s a dumb rule, because that is the point of a squad, but it exists and only concerns the length of injury not the type. So the door is open, but would we use this to replace a CB with a CF? Or would we use it to add Rhys as an emergency option?

Apparently, the length of time is 60 days. I assume that would be based on the club’s assessment of the likely length of the absence.

I suppose Leoni could also be replaced by Bacetjic.

Stef is still only 20 so doesnt need to be named in the A list to be involved in any game. But he himself is still only doing individual training so is probably a month away from consideration for the first team himself even if everything goes perfectly

No doubt he will be added if Leoni is out for 60+ days.

Leoni will in all probability be out for more than 2 months.

That does leave a slot open for Chiesa.

Hopefully we get Bajcetic , Chambers as backups for CDM/CB in the meanwhile and go through till January really injury free.

And even if we are not getting Guehi (in case Palace decides to dick us around , we should be getting another CB in).

There are bargains in the market. Mosquera for arsenal as one example.

How ironic and fateful is that, even the auspices are lining up for Slot to change his mind about including Chiesa in the CL roster since his compatriot might be missing for a good while if his injury is as serious as everyone thinks.

After the Leoni news, I hope Chiesa can fill in at centre half if needed. I’m joking of course.

He deserves a chance as the left-winger, Gakpo isn’t doing much so far.

I will bet you a quid its Gakpo again on Saturday. All this love for Chiesa as has been pointed out he didn’t make the bench for Everton.

Well Isak won’t play a full match or even 60 mins so it’s likely Chiesa will be on at some point.

Also the fact he played 90 mins for the first time in a while, and that was Soton.

You could be right, Slot likes Gakpo a lot, I liked Diaz en now Chiesa better but Slot is in charge. :joy:

I’m not new to the Chiesa fanclub…I thought all along that he still has a part to play for Liverpool. When there were calls to sell him in the summer, I held fire. He was a serious talent a few years ago, and still has that game in him.

But, that said, Slot has picked Rio ahead of him. And left him out of the CL panel. What impresses me most is his attitude. He seems happy and just wants to play. He might get more time this season. Who knows?
I reckon he starts for most PL teams, and is a nice option for us to have.

With Leoni’s unfortunate injury, can Chiesa be added to the CL squad now?

I believe so, unless we have another centre back who wouldn’t count as home grown.

Yes, and I don’t think there is anyone knocking about in the defensive positions that we would need to register.

So I think Chiesa drops in, and if we need a fourth CB it will be one of the kids we don’t need to register, or Gravenberch/Endo drops in.

Good stuff, don’t see why he couldn’t play some part in Turkey - assuming he’d be eligible to play by then.

I honestly didn’t realise we still had Rhys on our books!
