Thank you (shoukran ). I am not an expert. Sometimes, the weather is cloudy and they cannot see the sighting of a crescent in any eastern country, usually, it is Morocco which gives an indicator. some mosques follow Morocco or Saudi Arabia in the declaration on Eid. In Asia, i think it is tomorrow.
One thing for sure, one cannot fast for more than 30 days, so Eid was always going to be on Saturday, even if the moon was not visible on Thursday night. It is the 29th Ramadan which is unpredictable where the muslims are in limbo, whether to fast the next day or last minute manic sprint to the grocery shop to cook the next day.
We were told Tuesday, Wednesday, Eid is definitely on Saturday. Many of us where surprised. We had to wait for confirmation in the evening.
Happy St George’s Day to all those celebrating. Btw, i didn’t know this fact.
“George is described as a prophetic figure in Islamic sources. **George is venerated by some Christians and Muslims because of his composite personality combining several biblical, Quranic and other ancient mythical heroes”.
Several churches in the West Bank have saint George as saint in their churches.
Not getting drunk…no fireworks…might have the odd glass of fizz…but going to eat plenty of chocolates throughout the day…and have mester wilkored08 make cups of tea all day…that’s birthday treat…oh yes…and my birthday pressie …I’ll have to watch Monday night…
This is the first new year’s Eve in 22 years where I won’t be partying.
I know that I’ve often made these no drinking resolutions and failed miserably at it , but this time, I’m 3 months sober and intending to make it last more. Not even going out to be the sober driver. Just staying at home with the kid.
I stopped drinking to excess over twelve years ago now , but that’s not to say I don’t enjoy a nice glass every night with dinner , and I’ll certainly be raising one tonight , so a happy new year to one and all.
Let’s drink to the crazy
The lost-its, the lazy
The skankers, the punks and the ravers
Let’s drink to the drinkers
The drifters, the thinkers
The lost who are coming to save us
Let’s drink to the roamers
The gone-far-from-homers
The nomads, the rovers, the reckless
Let’s drink to the tragic
The mystic, the magic
The shameless, the nameless, the feckless
Let’s drink to the seekers
To decks, dogs and speakers,
And making some noise in the night
Let’s drink to the dancers
The dreamers, the chancers
And those who will always shine bright
Let’s drink to the skivers
The scum, the survivors
The searchers, the dirty, the bold
Let’s drink to the squatters
To pills, lines and blotters
To those who will never grow old
Let’s drink to the dodgers
The blaggers, the bodgers
The singers and bringers of songs
Let’s drink to the sinners
Saints, losers and winners
The fighters and righters of wrongs
Let’s drink to our sorrows
Our joys, our tomorrows
The warriors, the witches, the wise
Let’s drink to the weary,
The foolish, the cheery
The laughter, the smiles and the sighs
Let’s drink to the fire
To sparks flying higher
To the sun and the stars and the moon
Let’s drink to the road
To lightening the load
And the friends who have left us too soon
Let’s drink to our brothers
Our sisters, our lovers
The near and the far and the fled
Let’s drink to forgiving
Let’s drink while we’re living
Because you can’t drink when you’re dead.
