Could be from Trump. But history shows that people who say this kind of stuff are usually proven wrong after a few years already.

“Donald Trump has given FIFA an office in his infamous golden Trump Tower, and now in return the US President could be on the pitch at the final of the Club World Cup”

" Trump is expected to attend Sunday’s final at MetLife stadium in New Jersey, according to a senior administration official."

Trump could hand over the trophy

To be fair a politician, President, prime minister and all other snout in the trough “dignitaries” attend these events. Not sure of the World Cup final history but here in Oz they attend every big sporting event because the cameras are on. The best bit is every time they are shown on the big screen the boos ring out.

Unless your name is ScoMo, in which case, you’d still be cleaning yourself up after shitting yourself in Macca’s

What’s happened to you you’ve been quiet on here? I am really concerned the World Cup will be a disaster because quite a few of the national teams in Asia and Africa are banned from entering the USA and the majority of them will qualify for the World Cup in 2026.

Aah sorry I didn’t realise that but I still welcome him back not knowing what it was about.

Shame we can’t ban Infantino.

It’s almost like the old fashioned suits were prefable.

I kind of get the idea of the tournament and I don’t mind it acting as a precursor to the World Cup next year but qualification just seems odd for me.

Chelsea are the 4th best team in England so no they are not the worlds best. At least with most world cups the clubs have qualified in the last year or so and played all their games in the last two.

Indeed, Sepp Blatter and friends were no that bad.

Infatino simply used the Putin politic career playbook: pretend to fight against corruption to grab unlimited power and control.

I was talking about the types before Blatter. Glacial like some old USSR leader but…

@mattyhurst Before Blatter, Samaranch was in place. He was a staunch sympathizer of dictators. Among others, his best buddies were the members of the military dictatorship in Brazil (1964-85). He also pushed for Argentina to be chosen for the 1978 world cup, just when they were suffering from one of the worst dictatorships in South America.

Maybe the guys before Samaranch were a bit sounder. After all, it’s him (with Blatter’s help) who started turning FIFA into a money machine.

Stanley Rous was possibly the last decent president of that organisation (from 1961 to 74). I don’t know much about him, but maybe it’s him you were referring to?

Edit: just read that he was a staunch supporter of letting South Africa be admitted into football, despite of their apartheid politics. He also pushed for Chile to be allowed to play within the frame of FIFA, just after Pinochet’s military coup. So, no, definitely no. :see_no_evil_monkey:

Who comes before that? Arthur Drewry (from 1955 to 1961, died in office). He seems to have been okayish.

I’ve confused Fifa with Uefa, it was Lennart Johansson who looked like he was half asleep most of the time.
