South America interestingly suggest they won’t need qualifiers, assume they will be setting up their own pointless Nations League.
They should name the trophy the Woodrow Wilson Cup.
Equally pointless.
I’m afraid that he has outdone him by quite a big margin already…
Not sure what you mean? Are they proposing something different for 2030? Their 2026 qualifiers are already through Round 12 of 18. CONMEBOL qualifying already looks like a league table, so I hope they don’t screw it up with groups.
It was a suggestion if they expand to 64 they wouldn’t have a particular need for qualification. As about 8 teams would anyhow.
It was in the BBC article suggesting opposition to it.
I guess that makes sense - they get 6 spots now, and a solid chance at 7. Only Bolivia is not ranked in the FIFA top 64 right now. Having a ten team qualification campaign for top 8 would be a bit odd, they already have something of a problem with the later rounds producing a lot of meaningless fixtures. A 7th place Bolivia loss and a 1st place Argentina win next week would put Argentina on the maximum number of points Bolivia could finish with (after 13 of 18 rounds). The only thing keeping the late rounds becoming a travesty is the number of teams that absolutely hate losing to one another.
India still won’t qualify.
