FIFA - All that’s wrong with football

So, guys, who should it be then? Surely you’re not advocating for Infantino to stay in place?

In the eyes of Infantino, sure, but for you?

In the eyes of FIFA and its members

But should it be like that? FIFA’s role is also to set up the rules in order to offer the best possible football, so that it can be an enjoyment for everyone watching it. And its role is to protect the players in order to avoid too many injuries. In that regard, they are spectacularly failing.

The fundamental problem is that there is a firm majority of national associations that bear no costs for whatever FIFA does, but are entitled to a slice of the revenue - which often dwarfs their own internal revenue sources.

While that can produce some wonderful grassroots investment in the game, it also frequently produces national delegations more concerned with getting themselves paid (corruptly or otherwise). When that is then combined with the ‘no political interference’ rule, national association execs of often dysfunctional associations are not really accountable to anyone. They go to the World Cup and their federation tournaments as VIPs, they collect their often outlandish salaries, and as long as the gravy train keeps rolling they are only too willing to vote to add more games to the FIFA calendar for players they have nothing to do with.

Loads of things shouldn’t be like something in an ideal world. Not the reality of world football.
Even leaving the personal enrichment stuff that Arminius alluded to aside, I can’t even really blame a Curacao offical or from other smaller and/or poorer nations who points to a fancy new playing ground and says Infantino delivered that for us, he has my vote.

This is far bigger than Infantino as others have said.

He will be busy until World Cup 2034.

I know, but everyone would trust him to be in charge of the beautiful game.

As long as ALL the commercials are featuring him, he’d be totally incorruptible

Nah, he’s our. Let Sir Alex do it. I don’t care.

He’s 84… it’s not some dying European empire in the late 1800s

The pandemic haircuts. Blair chose William Hartnell as Doctor Who. Most of us chose a different path to time travel. British people in Germany were given German identity passes after Brexit and, as all the hairdressers were closed, we all ended up with photos that made us look like we were from the 1970s.
