Yeah I feel quite sorry for them. Our commentary was pondering what has happened to them, if something was going on behind the scenes for them to be performing so far under expectations. They went toe to toe for 70 minutes with one of the biggest favourites and last night lost a close game to the most impressively qualified side out of Europe. They are playing well they just ended up with one of maybe only 2 groups (England’s the other) that would have been considered tough in a normal world cup. And they still have a chance of going through if they can beat an already eliminated Iraq

I started watching France Vs Iran. It was so dire I turned it off then heard that it wasn’t just me they cancelled the match it was so bad

I physically cringe every time I hear an american try to commentate or report on any world cup match…they either frequently break into american sports terms/idioms/phrases that don’t fit football or sound so…fake/manufactured…Or they overemphasise football terms to the extent that it’s painfully obvious they’re trying to fit in…argh!!
When NBC won the Prem rights there is a much reported meeting where the head of sports told them all their philosophy for their coverage was to not pander to a perceived uneducated audience. That was nearly 15 years ago and they raised the bar here to an unimaginable degree, but Fox is still where it was in the early 00s. Even the foreign talent they bring in like Ian Darke become somehow Foxified into awful coverage.

The way they are structuring the allocation of the 3rd placed sides makes a lot of the draw unpredictable, but I dont think it’s quite that bad. The last group stage games are on Saturday, closing off the last 3 groups J-L. The earliest any of those can play in the KOs appears to be Wednesday

There is only two days between the start of the tournament and the end of the Semi finals. One between the Last 16 and QF and QF and Semis.
It’s potentially Sunday to Tuesday for the French/Nowegian group
