What’s remarkable about their situation is they didn’t even need the extra spots to qualify. I think it was Cameroon’s group they came out of as winner.

It was an awful performance. Basically minute in and they were passing backwards like they were playing a great Brazilian side.

That is true, but their path to the knockout rounds would have been more difficult in the former format.

Yes some are end to end however it’s a bit of nonsense as the quality isn’t there imo of course. I mean the control and first touch of many teams is just soo poor. Too many teams that shouldn’t even be there that got to the last 32, looking at Aussie here and others.
