The female referee they had on ITV giving the letter of the law the define why it is definitely a red card just goes to show the difference between where the referee’s are and where the public wants them to be.
Absolutely no one would have batted an eye at that not being looked at VAR. It’s essentially incidental contact. It would never have been mentioned again had the game just continued.
Meanwhile the VAR is picking through the match trying to find infringements.
I’m inclined to say VAR should only be used to review goals (they’d still fuck it up) and just leave everything else to the on field referee.
