FIFA World Cup 2026 - USA/Canada/Mexico

The Yellow card one is pointless, because it only looks at the second yellow (which given how refs are reluctant to give them will likely be correct) but not the first, which are often thrown around like confetti.

He’s got a free maccies or two for that corporate wank.

Goodness, the charlatan Romano is milking every penny from clicks. I guess there is a bit of lull in income from the Greenwood camp.

I would set the times out, so that it is clear. 1 minute for 11-15 seconds, 16-20 seconds is a further 10 seconds, 21-25 seconds adds another 10 on top and keep adding 10 second increments.

Instead of that, I think that each team is given a set time that the manager or coaching staff are allowed to be in the technical area and the time stops when they are all sitting down ie start with 5 minutes, as soon as a manager goes into the technical area, the timer starts counting down until they sit down again. Timer stops as long as everyone is sitting down. If the timer runs down to 0, then the entire coaching staff get removed from pitchside - the brilliance of this is it could be introduced across the entire game, so easy to bring in to Champions League, Premier League or what ever league you want

Clint Eastwood Grimacing - GranTorino

That sounds even worse.

How so?

It would fuck over Legoman as he would actually be forced to sit down and shut up.

He’s usually one of the any time goal scorers I go for…

Some half sensible ideas here but 5 seconds for a goal kick and throw in. That surely will not be strictly enforced…plus review second yellow only when it could well be the first yellow that was not merited.

This summer’s World Cup will see a high number of law changes, primarily around eradicating tactics to slow the tempo of play and waste time.

Fifa referees’ chief Pierluigi Collina hopes these changes will mean stoppage time is not as long as at the 2022 World Cup. But there is guaranteed to be three minutes in each half for the hydration breaks.

Throw-in countdown (five seconds): If a player deliberately delays the restart of play, the throw can be given to the opposition.

Goal-kick countdown (five seconds): Also applies to deliberate attempts to run down the clock and can result in a corner being awarded.

Off-field treatment (one minute): Players who are treated by the physio must stay off the field for 60 seconds. There are some exceptions, including for goalkeepers, injuries and if the opponent is booked or sent off.

Players covering their mouths: Any player covering their mouth in a confrontational situation with an opponent may be sanctioned with a red card.

As well as Collina’s request for the change to the protocol on corners, there are also a couple of other tweaks to VAR.

Corners can be checked: If VAR can make sure that a corner has been correctly awarded, but this must be done quickly and before the restart. Does not apply to wrongly awarded goal-kicks.

Second yellows can be reviewed: Players sent off for two cautions can have the second booking checked - but there will be no reviews for potential second yellows.

I am disappointed they didn’t run with my idea for the posts/crossbar to flash like 20/20 bails when hit by the ball.

I also suggested that whenever the ball hits the post/crossbar and bounces back into play it multiplies (think of Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup in Bellatrix Lestrange’s Gringotts vault). This would be the Chaos Ball; both would be in play at the same time, so theoretically, you could score twice without a restart.

I thought for sure FIFA and Fox would be up for this.

We have had it for keepers releasing the ball this season. The countdown doesn’t start until the keeper is unobstructed. In reality it is a fair bit longer.

Oh can’t wait for that to go wrong.

Have they tested this, or is it some bollocks that they bought from Elon Musk?

From what I read..

It is the adidas tech with the chip in the ball that makes this possible.

I guess we will see

So quality German engineering, then! Just as long as it isn’t as temperamental as the emergency braking in my Volkswagen.
