Maybe not so much the timing, but on the whole Iām actually in favour of the decision.
Alcohol should be banned from being taken into stadiums or sold at stadiums across the world, it only promotes poor behaviour, disruptunce, violence etc.
To be honest, this World Cup would have been the perfect marketing platform for Bud Zero, and somebody somewhere made a mistake of not just going ahead with that.
But somebody somewhere has agreed with Budweiser they can promote and sell regular Bud and then changed their mind at the last minute, so I wouldnāt be suprised if lawyers are being consulted.
i) it involves money
ii) it really could not have been later in the whole process
By contrast, the stench of dead labourers has been around for a decade now, we are thoroughly accustomed to it.
I really cannot bring myself to care about this Cup, but do feel compelled to watch Canadaās 3 games just because it has been 36 years. Absolutely despise FIFA for what they have done, Iād be delighted to see a European Super League outside the reaches of UEFA/FIFA now.
Itās a perfect play if you look at it. Everyone that wouldnāt have gone if there was a ban on alcohol, has now already payed for flights, hotels and tickets, taken time of work, etc.
It is FIFA that requires Qatar to sell beer at the stadium and Qatar agreed to it disingeniously and then later break the deal. This is not at all about Budweiser. FIFA has sold them the rights to serve as they have been the highest bidder. This is a product FIFA sells. To blame the brewery then is absurd, I think. Qatar is the only one to blame her. They conned FIFA with this beer deal.
The other issues ate far more important, but this is note worthy because Qatar in the 11th hour decides to break its contract with FIFA. Arguably Qatar would not have been handed the WC in the first place if they had not agreed to limited beer sale. Its just one of many small damning things done disingeniously and most dishonestly by Qatar.
But like Arminius says, this isnt a hill to die on. But still absolute worthy of critique. Its not about alcohol per see, but the lies and contract breaches.
