FIFA World Cup: Qatar 2022

No, would meet in the semi-final

Are you sure?

Just checked a simulator on a website and it looked as if it is possible.

So the Ballon dā€™Or boy is out, wonder what they must be thinking.

Did they think that squads of 26 and 5 subs would solve the issue? Good luck with that.

As more and more injuries happen, they will ask themselves whatā€™s the point of it.

Big blows for France, from defence, midfield (especially), to attack. I sense Deschampsā€™ best chance here is to go back to basics, in order to squeeze the maximum out of whatā€™s left.

Iā€™m going from the free wall chart I downloaded. Who knows, with this World Cup anything could happen!

Another look at what theyā€™re terming accommodation. Pathetic. If any of you guys have ever been to Africa you might be familiar with the Safari Tent; comfortable, hardy, semi-permament canvas tents with amenities set up quickly and cheaply with a minimum of fuss. A skilled crew can have one erected, furnished and completed in two days and it would look 100 times better than that shit in the desert.

No chance of seeing women dressed up like that in the stadiums this time?

I know - big naive this question.

And if you see one it will be the same one every time cut in.

This is a good article, unfortunately only in German, describing the circumstances from a visitorā€™s perspective. Sounds like a dystopian nightmare, fans being pushed around endlessly in fenced paths around the city. (Headline is ā€œMetal grids breaking the will of the world cup visitorsā€ā€¦)

No one forced Qatar to host the tournament. Part of them being willing to host it should have been putting aside their particulars to allow football fans to participate in their festival the way they always have. Besides the human rights stuff, this is just a far more fundamental stealing the game from the fans sort of situation.

I read it using the translation feature on my iPhone; the fan ā€œexperienceā€ sounds depressing as fuck.

As the article says, fans are treated ā€œlike sheep in the herd.ā€

And theyā€™re paying a fortune for it.

Canā€™t lie, Iā€™m very much looking forward to this.

I donā€™t concern myself with other countries/stateā€™s politics, I concern myself on the football and football only.

It amused me when he compared temperatures with Germany. Itā€™s -3Ā°C at the moment here.

However Iā€™m assuming that he means how oppressive it feels. I can remember being in Malaysia and the humidity was crippling. It was bad enough just wandering around being touristy, let alone having to do anything active. Quite how that affects professional athletes is probably a different question.

When does the opening ceremony actually start lol, theyā€™re just rambling on about all the issues.

Surprised Freeman has done it. Wonder how much he is getting?

Still talking politics, Fucking Brits having the audacity to talk about other peoples politics.

Iā€™m not a Brit. And their politics sucks. This World Cup is a joke.

Itā€™s sad fans that spent all that money have to stay in set areas. Part (most?) of the fun of traveling to far away places is exploring and discovering, moving off the beaten path. Obviously the games are the focul point, but lots of down time between.

I am watching the BBC programme on the World Cup.

Mainly, out of curiosity, to see the city as well. I can hardly recognise the skyline, except for the pyramid shaped Sheraton hotel. Last time I was there was Christmas 1999. The city looks beautiful.

Maybe FIFA will learn from this and take more care in picking hosts in the futureā€¦
