My first WC was 2002, so I can’t compare this one with past ones.
I remember house gatherings and big parties in 1998 when Croatia did well, but I can’t pretend that I was interested or followed every game like from '02 onwards.
1994 was not so good. Some of the stadiums were astroturf, and they tried laying sod across them. Terrible pitches. The final was a boring crapfest which ended 0 - 0 and went to penalties. The Colombian team was bankrolled by a drug cartel.

Bringing this up is racist actually… or something. 
Wouldn’t something useful coming out of a World Cup taint these so called “legacy” ideals.
Legacy seems to acquaint to rusting stadiums with teams of about 20 supporters playing in them.
