Given the Qatar captain wore a free Palestine band, the FA should have held firm. Pussy-Os
I thought as the tournament got underway, I’d get sucked into watching the games etc - nope, I’m being driven away from it more and more by the madness going on over there - although maybe I shouldn’t as apparently Infantino knows how I feel…cunt
Can’t the team go out to warm up with rainbow tops on instead of an armband? And I don’t mean dressed up as Bungle (although if Maguire is out there it would be hard to tell the difference…)
FIFA are a Kunstmuseum (my favourite none offensive but sounds offensive term).
I do hope one player does it, I expect we will see one who feels it’s important not too.
Be the Germans again. A booking is a booking though I think it’s weak not to on that basis. It’s not a sending off surely the player can get through a game with one.
England and Wales not wearing the OneLove armband for fear of getting booked after FIFA said they’ll punish players who wear it. Gone from “this World Cup is welcoming to everyone” to “If you wear an armband saying it’s ok to be gay we will book you”.
Honestly shame on everyone. Shame on the Qatari government for being cunts. Shame on FIFA for awarding them the tournament. Shame on every team there to take part for actively ignoring the issues. Shame on the fans for watching it.
A weekend in which there was a mass shooting in a gay club in Colorado Springs is a particularly bad time to roll out the “ok, go ahead and be gay, just not where we can see you” trope.
It was the Qarari’s who got Jared out of the debt on his 666 building. The Saudi’s didt give him the money until after the Trump admin ended, once Jared launched his hedge fund.
But to the bigger point, sure, a world cup in Qatar is not a problem in itself. It is that a country completely incapable of hosting the tournament without massive concessions to what the tournament is, and no real commitment to making themselves friendly to a visiting multicultural community who actually own the game. Yet despite all this they were given it, despite universal disagreement from the world footballing community, on the basis of a small number of self-appointed governors of the game getting rich for agreeing to sell something they dont own (they might own the tournament but they dont own the game).
To the even bigger point, the whole idea of growing the game across the world is a scam. It sounds liberal and altruistic, but in reality was Havalanche’s model for centralizing control of FIFA. The two men who came after him have used the same model for their own personal benefit. It isnt about growing the game, it is about using these countries as tools to solidify your personal power.
This is key - there is precedent for moving a tournament when a host country are deemed to not be able to deliver. Colombia bid on a tournament of a certain size and it subsequently got expanded tto more teams and more stadia afterwards. When they determined they couldnt deliver that version it was taken from them and put back out to bid. FIFA determined in 2012, a full 10 years before this tournament started, that Qatar’s pledge to hold this in the summer was not possible. The only excuse for not moving the tournament at that point is that giving it to Qatar in the first place was never about any of the arguments that are used to defend against Sportswashing, and so we should be careful to not lazily trot those out in continuing to defend this tournament’s existence. Understand you are being played if you repeat them.
