FIFA World Cup: Qatar 2022

If ever in doubt, let Joe Cole have the last say.

Oh and btw yes it was a clear pen.

I dunno if I’m honest if it’s that much of a blow. Stick Trent up top

Not sure about that tbh. Think Englands midfield will edge them over France atm

No Benzema: Definitely a miss, also no Nkunku but among Mbappe, Griezmann, Giroud, Dembele, Coman they have enough goals.

No Kante: He has started to slow down and be less effective, so with Tchouameni and the new crop of French midfielders they’re perfectly fine.

No Pogba: Pogba hasn’t played well since the last World Cup and he’s had injury after injury, so not sure how much of a miss he is.

No Kimpbembe: Ibou and and Upamecano are better.

No Moussa Sissoko: If Rabiot continues to play like he did tonight then he’s not a miss either.

no problems. Indeed

Really? Against Tchouameni, an in-form Rabiot? Not sure.

And their defence is definitely better than ours.

And Mbappe obviously better than any English attacker.

Lloris and T-Rex may be a tie because of Hugo’s mad tendencies.

Early days. We haven’t even had the completed first round of games.

Based on what I’ve seen so far, England and France look the best. But the sample size is way too small. Brazil haven’t even kicked a ball yet, for example.

Still, let’s imagine a head to head between England and France. On paper they have the weapons to hurt each other. England have form for going cagey and tight against a good opponent in a knockout game, and I’m not altogether sure that’s the right approach. The central defence is not world class, so to my mind, they might as well play with the brakes off and see what happens.

Forgot No Nkunku too

France’s spine is most definitely top class. And so is their CB pairing. And with James and Chilwell out and Walker coming back from injury, none of our defenders can live with Mbappe

Even FIFA now complaining about gutter22:

England’s central defence is not world class. That’s what I was saying. Apologies if not clear. I was thinking especially Maguire. He is good in the air, and offensively too. But it is not that hard to play around him.

No argument from me that Konate and Upamecano are top notch.

England will be going all out for the win against the USA

One of the few times the Irish, Scots and Welsh will want England to win.

I’d love to see that discussion.

:roll_eyes::roll_eyes::roll_eyes:

Giroud is a somewhat underrated player.

Certainly not one to end up on posters, but a very good, consistent career. He’s not quick, he can miss some 1v1’s, but link up play is very good, strong body and mentality, being in the right positions to score.

Benzema’s suspension all these years also played a part in him playing a lot of football as well.

Griezmann is also not far behind in terms of goals for France.

But Mbappe is probably going to surpass them all by the end of his careeer.

Always have a soft spot for Morocco as they were one of the teams we saw at the London Olympics. Great bunch of fans - we were seated between them and the Japanese fans and there was a definite party atmosphere going on.
