Interesting he’s been listed as a forward on the official site.

Yeah I noticed that. Part of our ā€˜4D Chess’ with Sandcastle and Eddie Howe re Isak and (more particularly) Elliot?

Hi guys. So the first test matches were played. What are your first impressions about Flo and Jerry? I saw the Highlights against Yokohama. Happy that Flo scored his first and Iam so proud of Jerry. I thought ā€œNow the doubters know, why you bought himā€ Cheers

From watching Wirtz in the pre season games, its clear hes very calm on the ball, able to retain it with little issue, and his weight of passing is sublime.

As shown here by Florian masquerading as a kiwi Trent

His moves with and without the ball are sublime as well. The way he glides over the pich and finds the right place at the right time, is staggering. No doubt a very special player. :+1:

His role is to create and score goals, being in the opposition third.

Mac, Szob, etc will be the real midfield (transition back to front, do the running, etc).

With Kerkez bombing forward, Flo may spend time sitting in that left inside pocket. But can also be deployed as an advanced mf too, when Gakpo is on…

Options, options, options.

Also… looks better on the website to have more FWs listed :face_with_tongue:

I suppose in a way Gravenbirch and Endo could be listed as defenders  considering the covering they’ll do for Kerkez and Frimpong… who could well be FWs.

Pretty enticing, and unconventional!

Still amazed we signed such a player.

Looks like he already has a new car. It’s good to see that he’s already started driving on the ā€œwrong side of the road.ā€ :joy:

His English is already much better.

Assumption is most Germans of his age will know some English if not fluent due to the teaching in schools over there.

Assume the west has been like that for years due to the occupied zones in Berlin and military camps.

East however I’m not sure about.

I’d say the split is more between urban and rural areas. Urban areas tend to have better English, mainly because there are more opportunities to use it.

Fair enough I speak really only on visiting Berlin and surrounding areas and it seemed an age divide, where issues seemed to crop up more with anyone over 50.

Florian said he didn’t really know much English, probably just a basic understanding. As far as I know, he went to a football boarding school. He actually learned English in the dressing room from Jeremie, who sat next to him. When Alonso arrived, most of the time only English was spoken anyway. But you can already tell he’s a bit more confident than he was at the beginning.

When there was still a border, children in West Germany learned English at school and those in the East learned Russian. Hence this difference.

I kind of assumed that would be the case but thank you for clarifying.

Anyhow shouldn’t really much impact Wirtz, the lad seems to have his head screwed on and is only a baby.
