Florian WIRTZ: 2025/26

maybe, but its not an either/or thing.

Dom wont stick around for this shite forever, but we can discuss that in his thread.

i dont see Wirtz finishing his career here, i think he’ll want to see what its like at one of the spanish Giants… i hope he doesnt want to go back and bully the german league.

so my overriding point was that in order for him to extend his time here, we’d want to start challenging and playing big matches, very quickly… or else the rumours will start.

i have no idea how is relationship with Slot is, but after the whole ‘he was impressed by Slots vision for him’ i cant but help think Florian would be looking at how its panned out and be thinking he got a bit duped…mitigating circumstances, absolutely… but theres no real genius plan for Wirtz, unless Slots the only coach that thought passing to him is a good idea.

so im looking at his situation and wanting us to get a wriggle on, make the most of his talents, because i really cant see him being a 7-10 year player here, unless we can really get this cycle moving…

maybe another way of looking at it, is Wirtz is what you sign when your looking to capatilise at the top of your cycle, not what you sign when you have a ‘long road ahead’… thats not a slight on the player, hes an obvious hard worker, its just an illistration of where he stands in the sport

Dom isn’t in the same class as Flo. Look if we are worried about either player leaving because of the shite we are playing then we need to dump Arne, immmediately.

any decent decoy runs?

Head and shoulders above all the players around him.

What did he drop 0.1 point for? Or did they expect him to be a goalkeeper as well?

Fantastic player. He was in a class of his own against Switzerland, who don’t easily concede four goals these days. Without him, we probably look at a win for Switzerland, as Germany’s defensive game wasn’t up to scratch by any means.

But Florian was absolutely fabulous to watch throughout the game. We haven’t yet seen such a complete performance in a red shirt. Not one. Yes, it needs some time to get acquainted with the PL’s physicality, but top footballers in this ilk always manage to find ways through their sublime talent, and Florian is definitely one of them. So, why haven’t we yet seen this from Florian with LFC? It will come eventually, but serious questions need to be asked if Slot is the right man going forward to use Florian’s fantastic abilities at the best of their potential for the club.

How did the German team set up around him?

From the XI I saw, it seems like he was inside left. Raum providing width on that side behind him. Sane providing width on the opposite right, as Kimmich was RB. Gnabry at #10? The new role he has had this season, basically Muller’s replacement. Havertz false #9. Stiller and Goretzka as double pivots.

Apart from that though, what did he do?

if he stays here 5 years, taking into account off season and the odd injury niggle, that means hes about 20% of his way through his anfield career

now…onto brighter news…

On the conversation above…

No worries for me yet, because Liverpool comes far and above any player and Wirtz hasn’t shown what he’s capable of yet or consistently. And I’m saying that as someone who was absolutely delighted with the move.

I don’t think there was any genius plan for him (there was simply more room for him here than at Bayern or City), it’s a collective game and yes, there are some players who are or were brought in to be key figures.

They all share the blame, more or less, for the season we’re having so far.

I can’t say I have any worry around losing a player, but what happens with the contracts though, that can be an issue, like we’ve seen with a few examples. Even with Szoboszlai, does Real really need him? Barca? In both cases, no, I don’t think so. Of course, some might still come for him. All clubs do some weird big profile moves from time to time. We did some last summer.

If there is any worry, it’s more about us where we are at the moment with question marks over Edwards, Hughes, Slot and what we’ve assembled in terms of the playing squad, how to make it functional, competitive and winning again.

I know it can happen sometimes after a short while. I felt it with Suarez on the night we beat Zenit at home in 2012. When he scored that free-kick and how he celebrated I was like… we won’t have this guy for much longer and rightly so, he deserves to be battling for CL’s, not getting knocked out of the EL.

But today, worrying when Florian Wirtz might have enough of Liverpool, while also Florian Wirtz at Liverpool is still not the real Wirtz for me is just not a thing, or not the main thing for sure.
