Dirk Kuyt and Jermaine Pennant being ahead of him kind of kills the credibility of that statistic.

Reminder that Wirtz has less that a season in the PL under his belt.

To be fair that was Dirk’s debut in the PL.

He will likely take over the other two.

I’m not a big fan of those ā€œchances createdā€ stats anyway.

Some lovely defence splitting passes in the second half last night.

Athough still frustrating inconsistence over a game and even in a space of minutes, a bit like Garcia was (and remained so) or Firmino was in his first season with us.

To be the player he can be, there’s at least a level for him still to reach.

@Zoran

How was the performance of Florian Wirtz yesterday?

I has did not watched the match.

So-so, a bit hot and cold. In some periods of the game, we didn’t see him enough. Vitinha was very good against him in some defensive 1v1 actions. In some latter stages, more concrete and some lovely passes in the final third.

Every time I watch Cherki play, I find myself asking why we spent 3x as much on Wirtz.

To be clear - I’m still backing him. But his output and otherwise lack of involvement has been disappointing. He should be dictating the attack far more often instead of being on the periphery.

I keep thinking back to how easily we shut him down when we beat Leverkusen 4-0 last season

Whole set up is disjointed as fuck quite frankly. I think it’s quite hard to judge him and I think comparing him to Cherki is a bit harsh considering the City set up is well oiled.

Because our traditional Klopp-era setup has never needed a Wirtz. We do need, however, someone like Adam Wharton or an in-form Macca.

Bringing him in fucked up our previously well-oiled structure. OTOH, a pure central midfielder like Wharton or a proper winger like Kvaraskhelia or even Gordon will walk straight into our team.

Personally, I believe that some of our new signings should receive Andy Carroll/Charlie Adams treatment this summer.

Now…come on…
No-one else could be like Casc.
Is he still on TalkShite?

No movements ahead of him.
He couldve had 3 assists for Salah on Tuesday but Salah left touch in the dressing room. Not Wirtz fault his team mates have zero touch and cant finish

When he recives possession he makes things happen, but only as you state if we have the runners.

If Wirtz was playing at City, he would have eclipsed whatever Cherki has done. Cherki is playing as well as can be expected, whereas Wirtz still has levels to go.

For that to happen however, a coach who knows how to get the best out of him is required. Not someone who doesn’t have a clear vision on how he wants his team to play.

Wirtz is outstanding for Germany and was for Leverkusen.
What’s the difference? Germany and Leverkusen have managers who know how to use him and build teams around him.

This whole ā€œbuild teams aroundā€ one player is completely moving away from having one point of failure that Klopp envisioned.

I still fail to see where he fits in with a team that is strong both in offence and defence.

I fail to see how you can build a team that primarily relies on fast-pace flank attacks around Wirtz.

Traditional Klopp-era football does not need him. Instead, we need 2 fast wingers, 2 fast offensive full-backs (sorry Kerkez) and a midfielder/defender who can pull long passes to bypass the midfield.
