Florian WIRTZ: 2025/26

Yes, I get that, but if he’s actual central to start with he can do the same thing across the whole pitch

Sure, but the team isn’t made of one person. I imagine a key part of the decision whether to play him centrally or on the left, is the balance of the team/ structure around him and the strengths of those players - if he plays centrally and then goes off to the inside left channel he may leave a hole that is more problematic for us than if he leaves one on the left flank. Centrally, he may get marked easier. Maybe it helps us use other players in their best positions.

I agree I think he´s not much slower if at all. in my view neither are quick enough to play properly wide

The thing that I was hoping to see more of was clever passing in the final third. That cutting through ball that he sees and executes that others dont. Coutinho was doing that a lot at the start. We saw it a bit from Wirtz, especially when he had Isak and Salah´s movement, but I hoped for more of it.

As you say too, you want him to take the game by the scruff of the neck a bit more, beat a man or two and finish. He looks like he has the quality but we dont see it enough yet.

I think your point is right but it might more be a case of us not having a good enough midfield 2 behind him to play him in the 10 and having too many midfielders to fit in so we have to play a 3. Combined with no top quality left wide player.

For those reasons we might shove him out to the left.

We have Rio and now Munoz on the left (and also Gakpo currently). If Wirtz is to play there, then it means one of these players can’t. I don’t like the idea of that. We need to figure out a way to get him involved as a 10.

I wonder if the right type of manager like a Klopp could physche him up and get him to start doing that more

Munoz can play on the right too though cant he?

It seems so. Started ten league games this season at right wing, according to Transfermarkt. Eighteen on the left.

He has also played through the middle, where he had his best scoring ratio.

Yeah I think so mate.

He was doing it for a period and in the ascendancy and then towards the end of the season seemed to regress and lose his confidence and was almost hiding.

Just don’t get injured!

I hope that this latest humiliation will anger him, and make him come back hungry and willing to give everything for us after his holiday. The latter should be a very sour one to be honest…

Wirtz Vs Paraguay
Didn’t play that well but he did lay on a few chances.

I don’t like him pinned out on the left. I think he’s too far away from goal and doesn’t have the pace for it.

Thought he was easily their best player, again. An assist and should have had another if Havertz does better with that cross. The amount of progressive passing he does is a great sign for Iraola.

I also noticed he made a number of passes into a space with enough weight for his teammate to make it at the same time enticing enough for defenders to chase after it but miss out. Very clever.

Not to sound Roy Keaney but I think that’s his job as number 10. Id be shocked if he isn’t always looking to create something forward

For me where we are in dire need of progressive passing is just behind Wirtz in that midfield two.

Was their best player again though yep

Florian Wirtz on IG: "This one hurts. The World Cup is over for us and it’s difficult to find the right words right now. We came here with big dreams, gave everything as a team, and still it wasn’t enough in the end. Thank you to all the fans for your support. Those who travelled with us and everyone watching from home. We felt it every step of the way. I’m proud to represent this country and this team. We’ll need some time to process this, but we’ll come back. Thank you. 🇩🇪
