Florian WIRTZ: 2025/26

The shirt says Acne gym? Wut? Is this some sort of bad WB knock off where they dont want to pay Road Runner royalties?

You’re never short of a spotter when you go there…

It does look like a knock off from St John’s market.

That’s a great football pic, regardless of who these players are. The three players look rushed, and wrong-footed, whilst Wirtz looks thoroughly composed and in control of the ball and the situation.

That Arsenal saw fit to put 3 players on Wirtz the entire match just goes to show how important they considered it was to stop him. It is also an explanation to why he ā€˜struggled’. He’ll get used to it!

Great player. These first 6 months will be tough for him. I believe he comes into his own during the run in!

I’m really not worried about Wirtz. I know he’s had a few mistakes. A few poor passes; a few times he’s lost the ball, etc. But he’s had to shift between 10 and False 9 roles and he’s drawn a lot of defensive attention. I also thought the second half against Arsenal was a significant turning point. He looked much more dynamic.

Something Mo said recently really influenced my thoughts on Wirtz. Mo discussed the value of experience playing with certain teammates. How he knew where to look for Lucho and where he wanted a pass, and how it’ll take time to figure that out for the new signings.

I think Wirtz is going to become more effective the more he plays with his teammates. You can see when he has the ball that he operates almost like a radar, consistently scanning around to see where his teammates are. When he feels confident enough to play his game and trust where his teammates are going to be based on experience, it’ll make him almost impossible to defend.

If you can’t see that he’s a class above everyone else technically then you shouldn’t be commenting.
I hope he settles in the team soon. Get’s used to the PL intensity and thuggery then much will fall in place.
For me the major worries are elsewhere on the pitch. The other midfielders for example are tending to line up vertically down the centre which is tactical madness (except Jones of course who moves around intelligently).

this.

i dont get for a second the concerns or comments…and i certainly dont understand people just accepting hes been poor in the first three games

hes been fine, weve won three from three, and hes shown moments on the ball and off it that other players would be sitting down and taking notes from to improve thier own game.

he started SLOWLY on game one, the rest have been fine with the added caveat that you can clearly see theres more to come…

It’s because people judge players and teams on that weekends results and performances.

not sure i understand your point, but what i was trying to say is he hasnt been poor and dissappointing, like as has just been accepted by everyman and his dog.

I’m saying people want to make judgements based on last weeks game and not over a season. It’s why Man Utd are forever turning the corner and Everton, Spurs and Arsenal have all won the league in August.

There was actually a lot of unnoticed quality work from him in the first few games, the first two especially. And when I say unnoticed I don’t just means fans who’s view of the game was impacted by their anxiety about a result hanging in the balance, but by his own team mates who failed to notice him again and again creeping into good areas where he was asking for the ball and just not getting it.

Wirtz also covered a huge amount of the pitch as well. He’s active everywhere. A relentless presser.

We paid 100 million for him and he hasn’t scored in the first 3 games… and he got bundled off the ball once against Newcastle so some and freaking out and/or just creating drama being disappointed over the lack of instant gratification.

I do t think he was actually poor in any of the games… and I do think he was really really good in the second half against Arsenal. It felt a little like he was getting fused to the PL pace and getting familiar with his teammates.

As a few have said. He’s not a worry, the class is clear to see, and I still have every expectation that we will see better and better performances from him as the season progresses.

Not even slightly worried about him, he has to settle into a pretty strong league, and he is doing it,quite nicely, not noticed by all but he does get into good position in plenty of time and that is surely being seen, except sometimes by other players, he is definitely class and in the next few games it will become clear, thought he was showing a bit against Arsenal.
Still looking a pretty astute signing.

For me it wasn’t so much that, he remained well covered by the opposition, it was that he made very good runs that pulled the opposition out of position. The problem was noone filled the space he created meaning there was noone in a good position to receive the ball. It’s a team game after all.
I mean if a big space opens up use it!
