If it’s on the internet it must be true.
Considering his running stats, he should be able to find space. Once (or if) he/Iraola can make it click for him, he will be fantastic for us.
He definitely can be stronger in the challenge. At times he treats a tackle as something he can win with a clever flick rather than something he has to put his foot through. But it’s also important to point out that a lot of the pressing from the front is about creating the conditions that ushers the ball into areas where other players can win it back, not necessarily winning a tackle yourself. Its the difference between a coordinated press and Joy Royle style 80s “get stuck in”
I mean hasn’t this been the general consensus for the last however many years when it comes to assessing players, in Flo’s case - creative players, from abroad?
An incohesive and dysfunctional attack that can’t (or doesn’t) communicate and don’t understand each other’s game is of more detriment to a creative player than not finding space in the areas you want. Actually when you watch Wirtz, there have been countless times in games he’s found himself in or taken up positions in space to hurt the opposition…and for whatever reason (nothing to do with the league he now plays) it doesn’t materalise into something more.
Good analysis
Agreed! I could have worded my post better. What I meant to say was that he stops short of forcing them into an error. I don’t have to tell you that he doesn’t need to win the ball (and definitely not “get stuck in”), but the domino effect of structured and well-timed pressing should be for us to win the ball back in a dangerous zone.
Flo stops short
Dom goes too far in.
That’s what she said.
No such thing as too far in

Florian Just the Tip Wirtz
Carra and Warnock can now shut their gobs. But they will still focus on Flo is not a LFC player. Oh well. I really hope that this international outing injects some confidence back into Flo.
The unfortunate truth is… international games mean nothing unless Wirtz starts dominating the PL for Liverpool.
If he doesn’t, criticism will continue.
Flo is a Liverpool player. Unless he completely down tooled or bad mouth LFC, I will back him all the way, just like I back the other LFC players.
Even if he’s not productive on the pitch in terms of goals and assists, you can see him drawing opponents to him, and freeing up his teammates. In essesnce, he’s already doing his job.
2 separate issues though. There will always be some selective people who will criticize Wirtz no matter what but I think most on this forum at least is only calling as it is, that on the critical stats for a forward player, he has been underperforming despite all the hard work he puts in. That jolly well might not be only down to him alone, perhaps more time with a new coach and the team playing in a new system, they will hit that synergy along the season.
Great mention on the system as it feels that the initial focus regarding the system is aimed at getting our defensive side of the press firing.
Hopefully once that is in place we can develop our forward play.
Just reality isn´t it
A decent game against Serbia and 40 year old Dusan Tadic isn´t really the barometer. It´s a bit tiresome either way, the over the top defence of some guy earning hundreds of thousands a week, as much as pundits piling on.
Of course having better movement in our forward line would help, as would a better more penetrative midfield behind him, but he has to do better than he has been doing, regardless. That´s basically it.
Now that is hilarious every international break he has gone away played well for Germany then come back and stinked the joint up again.
FYI - his performance,
He was forming a decent partnership wirh Ekitike before he got injured last season so the movement in front of him is definitely a factor.
