Wirtz had great games with Germany before and nothing changed in the PL.

Of course it isnāt, because it was never the point in the first place.
Its not about the opposition, but about the system implemented and the central role of Wirtz in it.
Its also not simply about better movement of our forward line. Its about overall design of build-up play, both wrt, yes, movement ahead of him, but also the platform behind him.

TheyĀ“re just playing a poor side that would get destroyed in the PL. Put that Germany team and their magic system in the PL and see if he shines.
I think he can and should shine here but the system isnĀ“t stopping him from doing even basic things well right now for us. You dont spend 150 mil on a player that canĀ“t play even fairly well without the perfect system, never mind canĀ“t show top class abiility.

If heās lacking in anything right now for us I think itās confidence, and hopefully a good showing for the NT means heās had a boost in that regard. All good, as far as Iām concerned.

Yes he looks absolutely devoid of confidence for us. Things that should come naturally heĀ“s overthinking and messing up.
At the moment, something is very wrong in my opinion. Iraola has a lot of work to do to get his swagger back.

Yes Barcola has to play uptop now.
Gakpo / isak injury really exposes our lack of squad depth.
As for Wirtz, he needs a really good performance against the Cheaters. To restore the faith of the supporters.
All eyes will be on him.
If Gakpo is out, just play Macca Dom and Grav (or Nyoni for one) as a 3 and let Wirtz float from the left.
I think its possible to parse technical leftovers, like poor touch, a missed pass, etc, from systemic issues..
At which point, its not so much about the quality of opposition, but about the ability of the system to stimulate high performance.
Afterall, there are examples of poor performance by Wirtz against poor PL teams..

Id argue we canĀ“t play with a 10 without Wirtz.
Better off with a midfield three. I suppose you could argue it means a system change but I just donĀ“t think we have any number 10s except him now that Elliott is gone.

I think Wirtz does too much of the defensive work in midfield. A player with his qualities should do his work further up the pitch(imo in short).
