I’m just thinking, best of luck to him. He’s probably heading towards the end of his playing days and looking for a pathway to try out coaching. It’s a bit of a roundabout way to get there, but experiencing some radically different clubs on the way is good background.
It’s definitely a culture-setter type of move from Xabi Alonso. With Chelsea’s money they can buy better midfielders than current Hendo, and they already have some on the books. That’s not to say Henderson won’t do a job when called upon, but he is in the stage of his career where it is winding down for him as a player.
What he does have is a great attitude and a lot of professionalism. He can be a very useful buffer between manager and players on all that stuff, to help set the right tone.
Thing is they have already bought those midfielders
Imagine if we had got Xabi, directly after Klopp or post-Arne, and the first signings under his reign were Hendo and Welbeck.
Not going to start many at Chelsea..sure it’s not the money Jordan?
Henderson claimed shortly after his move to Saudi that he left Liverpool because he didn’t want to play a bit-part role despite his age. Yet, he could now be set for a move to Chelsea, which would directly contradict his supposed motivations for departing Liverpool in the first place.
To be fair that was several years ago, and he was still involved with the national side
I’ve never been convinced that Jordan is a deep thinker and I expect he may have meant what he said at the time and the circumstances have simply changed for him.
He still is…isn’t he? Can’t believe he thinks he is going to Chelsea to sit on the bench and make the odd 10 minute cameo and starts in domestic cup games, which is probably what will happen though.
Involved in the loosest possible sense. Pretty clear he was taken solely for a bit of experience/leadership in the dressing room, just like he will be for Chelsea.
Motivations at 32 can be different when at 35 when you are a footballer. Of course the money would be great, but you don’t know what kind of project Xabi is selling to him. And as for playing alot for motivation in leaving Liverpool at 32, he has stayed true, he did play alot of minutes for the Saudi club and for Ajax and for Brentford, more than he would have gotten for us here. But now at 35, there would be considerations of retirement, slowing down so he can prolong his career and playing a different role for another team
And the added possibility that he may have coaching ideas for his future, and playing under Xabi at Chelsea is not a bad place to start that transition.
I think one of the reasons he went to Brentford was to keep his face in the papers down south as a constant reminder to Tuchel and the forthcoming WC… Which worked out well for him I admit
For all we know, he has an eye on a role at the England camp and heading to Chelsea might just help that… I for one bear him no malice or bad fortune… As players go now he is long in the tooth so won’t really be a problem when we play against him… What he is armed with, is a full knowledge of how Jurgen trained our players… Knowledge like that doesn’t fade away or go out of style…Ever.!
Alonso signing him, could be a case of what Jordan knows, as opposed to what he does on the pitch
yeah, but now the world cup is over he will probably not be making future squads as they look to build for the next round major tournaments.
Who are the two either side of him?
On the left is his agent TAA’s brother. (I have completely forgotten his name.) I don’t know the other one.
Tyler Alexander Arnold. The other is Sam Jewell.
Is that Paul Jewell’s son?
Both there completely on merit, I’m sure!
