He actually started his playing career at Liverpool as a youngster, as a manager he did the tour of glamour clubs like Wigan, Derby, Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday and Bradford.
Probably would have been more successful had he been called something a bit more exotic like Paolo Jewell (according to Big Sam)

I can remember when he was meant to be the next big thing in our reserves, but Rushie had broken through and blocked that path. In fairness, we was pretty successful as Wigan manager.
