I’m sure Firmino is distraught.

I’m shocked there are any fans who actually watch it to turn on him.

Bring him home.

Streching a bit the definition of former player, here’s an interview of Ian Graham, who goes over what Liverpool did with data and why only Brentford and Brighton are actually replicating the model.

It’s fascinating stuff. There was one of our data guys (not Graham) who was featured on the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures a few years ago. It’s no surprise that Brighton and Brentford are using this as well.

@Dutch looking forward to it? :grimacing:

Bugger March 23, I have an appointment to watch paint dry on the day … :see_no_evil:

Reading this, it makes me wonder why the club didn’t splash out on some of the side projects, especially if it meant that we could bring in some younger data talents to grow the next Graham…

There are no details at all on the hard part that resulted in them quitting Liverpool, so we’re just left with questions.

If I had to guess I would imagine that they realised they have the reputation of being “the guys that fixed Liverpool” and could make way more money as independent contractors working for anyone in Europe than being contracted to just one club.

Hasn’t Michael Edwards just started his own data analysis company after his non-compete clause ended?

Yep Edwards and Ian Graham are directors of ‘Ludonautics’. Some football advisory service.

This came up on Facebook. Football before under pitch heating (or global warming!)

Emlyn Hughes about to kick off against Bangor in the FA Cup 1979.

Incredibly, I managed to find some footage of the game:

Can you imagine today’s players tolerating those conditions?

Wow I have no memory of that game at all. The mighty Emlyn

Ray Stubbs was playing for Bangor apparently…

Aah…it was actually a friendly match…not FA Cup. Imagine risking injuries playing on that surface against non league opposition :face_with_peeking_eye: in the middle of a busy season…seems crazy now.

Nice footage, cheers.

I was happy to see Bangor get a consolation goal at the end, nice chip.

Remember than Icey pitch and we were so bad.

No memory of it! It was only ~45 years ago. Are you sure you haven’t got dementia? :joy:

I can’t even remember what happened last week, let alone what happened before I was born

It was only because the poster said it was an FA cup game against a non league team. We were European Champions at that time so I know I would have remembered it…

Btw I am in my 8th decade so yes my memory is a challenge at times

I got the FA cup bit from the Facebook page (really should have checked). I was just amazed that the footage existed. It must have been a home movie.
