I liked Jonjo when he played for us. Not that skilled but always seemed committed.
Everybody has weird viewpoints and there are plenty weirder. I don’t know the UAE but seems better than Saudi perhaps?

I thought this was interesting. The club have given First Division winners medals to former players who won the league with us in the 1960s to 1980s but who didn’t make the 14 appearances that would have qualified them for a medal at the time.
• David Fairclough – 1982-83 (eight appearances)
• David Hodgson – 1983-84 (five appearances)
• Alan Kennedy – 1985-86 (eight appearances)
• Chris Lawler – 1963-64 (six appearances)
• Jan Molby – 1987-88 (seven appearances)
• Terry McDermott – 1975-76 (nine appearances)
• Ronny Rosenthal – 1989-90 (eight appearances)
• Paul Walsh – 1987-88 (eight appearances)
• John Wark – 1983-84 and 1985-86 (two medals for nine appearances)
• Steve Heighway – 1979-80 (nine appearances)
• Colin Irwin – 1979-80 (eight appearances)
• Sammy Lee – 1979-80 (seven appearances)
• Alec Lindsay – 1975-76 (six appearances)
• Joey Jones (postumous) 1975-76 (13 appearances)
It’s more the other comments…
Rafa Benitez is taking over Panathinaikos which used to be a great club with a proud European pedigree, but for 20+ years it has been beset by the worst ownership you could imagine.
The current owner has actively sabotaged his own team in the past on the rare occasion where it was actually competitive on the pitch. He makes Hicks and Gillette look like FSG in comparison and Utd appear well-run. This is a millionaire with shipping and media assets that came within an inch of having his team relegated because he wouldn’t pay a 70,000 € debt to a former player.
I don’t know why Benitez keeps doing this to himself. He has zero chance to succeed at a club where amateurism runs rampant and winning isn’t even among the priorities. At least, the compensation package is generous.
I think he needs to work for his mental health if perhaps not his finances. Shame really as he’s taken on several jobs that he was on a hiding to nothing and have hurt his reputation.
He seems to just want to coach, and experience new leagues and countries. Once upon a time, maybe he wanted to be calculating in his approaches, but I guess the treble stint of his final days with us, the Inter gig, and the Real Madrid job not working out after 6 months put an end to that. The Europa League win at Chelsea and the job he did at Newcastle almost gave him a brief renaissance to maybe look at some better gigs, but then the Everton job killed off any hope of serious clubs looking at him again.
He’s 65 years old now, so I guess he’ll keep managing as long as he can. I could see a world where in maybe 5 years time, he jumps around as a caretaker option for clubs.
I’m surprised that he never has been considered for a national side. He could be a very good national coach.
Yeah he’s probably a bit skint
“You can go to quite a lot of teams in the Premier League and it would be like a holiday compared to managing Celtic”.

Because being in Glasgow is like a prison sentence?
I remember a visitor commenting about what a lovely view my Glasgow office had overlooking the Clyde. I then had to explain the body boat to her.
our assistant coach once managed the Gers,
won the Scottish Cup, took the Gers to the Europa League final in the same season
beating Dortmund, Red Star, Braga and Leipzip along the way,
lost his job the next season because his Gers team were 9 points behind the Celts, with around 25 games still to play
If you manage an old Firm team, nothing matters except beating the other half of the old Firm and winning the league, if you dont then your out!
Jan the Man hanging out with @RedWhippet
That was McDermot’s second season and he still hadn’t established himself enough to get the number of appearances he needed. Another reminder to not judge signings too soon.
2 absolute legends right there.
Darwin’s gone full Joe Pesci in Casino with that new haircut.
