Former players and managers - general discussion

Speaking to Celtic fans at work the last days,

Most are backing Rodgers.

I point of that he spent millions in the summer, more then every other club in the league (maybe apart from the gers who are still a mess)

There response is, the net spend is low as Celtic sold a few good players plus he didnt get the players he wanted.

Who did he eant i ask, did they want to come to Celtic?

Could Celtic afford them and the wages?

No response.

I tell them, thia is just brendan been brendan which we witnessed here

Telegraph:

Chelsea have announced the appointment of a fifth sporting director, Dave Fallows, the celebrated former Liverpool recruitment expert who helped build Jurgen Klopp’s great side.

Is that the 5th one they’ve appointed after letting the other 4 go or do they have 5 of them currently?

They previously had 2 official ones and I don’t think either have been let go. So maybe they are counting the two principal owners who both want to stick in their beaks

Judging by the number of players they have, it would not surprise me at all to find they need to have 5 Sporting Directors

Just reading some articles on the Athletic and saw that our former goalkeeping coach Jose Manuel Ochotorena has died at the age of 64.

A yellow card for a knock-out punch on Keegan. It’s a little bit harsh maybe, as he was tackled from behind with two feets by the same Keegan just before.. :joy:

And Tommy Smith’s tackle before that, Jesus Christ… the ref blows a foul, he’s really harsh, that ref!

They sound like real responses from him. It would have been fun if they had asked him what he thinks his children would do when they grow up. I wonder if Match of the Day presenter and professional football coach would have been amongst them?

George and Mildred?

Seriously?

Probably still only three (or four) TV channels in those days. Still… no excuse really :joy:

They are great responses. Succinctly show drive and focus alongside a strong family focus and down-to-earthness that are excellent ingredients for all top players - be it the 1970s or 2020s.

He said the same thing about being a joiner on Stick to Sports a few weeks back. It was where he thought his career was headed until he got his break at Celtic. He was an apprentice joiner at the time.

He also said Rising Damp, and his favourite actor being (Liverpool born) Leonard Rossiter, so not all bad.
