…He told Gazetta Dello Sport: ā€œIt all started with a phone call. Jurgen knew everything about me. I’d beaten his Dortmund side with Augsburg two years earlier. [He said] ā€˜I want that goalkeeper there. That day you saved everything against us. You have to do it for me, too’. I never actually played, I was 40, but leaving football and saying goodbye to the fans in front of the Kop was an amazing feeling.ā€

ā€ŒManninger would serve as back-up to Simon Mignolet whilst at Anfield, but ultimately never got on the pitch. It didn’t harm his experience though, which was his second in the Premier League after being part of a winning Arsenal outfit.

Hmm, ā€œI’ve started loving football againā€ is basically word-for-word what Tyler Morton said too.

A lot of players will said that as soon as they don’t have to work with a certain head coach anymore.

A lot of players will say that as soon as they are able to be regular starters for the first time in their careers, too.

More English players should do that step, in my opinion.

I know the PL is a bit of a holy grail, certainly from a financial aspect and that it’s not easy to leave. But sometimes making a step somewhere else, even if it means dropping a level, can then bring you two steps forward in the future.

And also bring you new kind of happiness, see that there’s more about life than what you thought there was before.

You become richer as a footballer and as a person.

I remember Jones saying he was happy at the start of Slot (while making sure to say it doesnt mean anything bad about Klopp), which makes me think it was the training, which makes me think that the training is easy, which is leading to the pathetic display on the field through no pressing, etc.

I understood it that they initially liked each other because of technical aspects. Pretty much the same as Wirtz when he said he likes Jones, from the players he only met at this club.

i.e. fuck you Arne. .

As honest a footballer/goalkeeper you could hope for…

Tommy Lawrence with wife.

A true wall between the posts and a proud part of football history — Tommy Lawrence is remembered as one of the great goalkeepers of his era.

Nicknamed the ā€œFlying Pigā€ for his fearless style and incredible agility, he became a key figure for Liverpool FC during the 1960s, helping the club rise to major success under legendary manager Bill Shankly. Lawrence was never just a shot-stopper — he was brave, consistent, and ahead of his time in how he read the game.

From his humble beginnings in Scotland to becoming a trusted last line of defence at Anfield, his journey is a reminder of hard work, resilience, and pure love for football.

A true professional, a loyal servant of the game, and a goalkeeper who inspired generations.

Rest in peace, Tommy Lawrence. Your legacy still stands strong.

Love the video where he’s stopped and asked about the derby and he’s calm and modest with just a twinkle in the eye and little smile showing his pride. All the hallmarks that he was a top man.
