Former players and managers - general discussion

Plus a lot of that playing time wasn’t upfront whereas it was all up front for the others.

Wasn’t he MOTM in that final?

Hahaha. I remember him. He also played in Slovenian 1st league for a tiny club (it was from a village with a population of 73 people). It lasted 3 years in 1st division and it was money laundromat for 2 rich kunts. Now the club is defunct.

Oh yeah, Albert didn’t make any lasting impression. Same unwatchable shit level as most league players but on highest salary in the league.

Was he?
God we must have been bad!

I remember him for punching a youth player!

If Pennant was MoM (I’m assuming for us rather than overall), then it was an incredibly low bar lol

Fair point. Lambert was over the hill, for sure, and never Liverpool quality. Sterling didn’t really become world class in terms of production until 17/18. Interestingly, he’s never played as many PL minutes as he did in that 14/15 season. Struggling for minutes now.

Agreed.
He really dissapointed at Liverpool though, after a couple of great seasons at Spurs

What did he go through?

I’ve not followed his career, so not heard anything

Really?

He was one of the kids who was sexually abused by their youth coach, can’t remember if it was Barry Bennell or one of the others caught in the same police investigation. But by the time he reached Liverpool he’d basically become an emotional wreck and alcoholic.

Oh fuck - I didn’t know that.

I do remember his time with us and thinking he looked like a completely different player to what I remember him being at Tottenham - that is so sad as on his day was a fantastic player

Yeah, a lot of promising careers around that time got wrecked by scumbags, Stewart was one of those who managed to keep it together for a while, but underneath the surface he was tormented by what happened.

Where did you get that from? I tried Googling it but found nothing…

The documentary I watched about it.

Guardian was the one that broke the story and had regular reports on it:

Documentary is on the BBC:

Right, embarrassingly I thought the conversation was about Stewart Downing…

OK I think we need a conversation changer after that!

I feel like a true crime will be how Sturridge will never be remembered for good he was uninjured. Due to the way his career has tailed off and the phenomenal season Suarez had around the same time plus us not winning anything. Its such a shame. Give me a injury free Sturridge as an option for any team on the planet he’d walk into the starting 11.

Clearly a better finisher than Sadio and Bobby.

And

That left foot was magic. The range of different finishes make Salahs goals look ‘monotone’ in comparison.

To be fair, Westerveld and Barmby played their part in the treble season.
