Freddie Woodman:

“Being third choice is, from what I’ve seen, more important than what I thought coming in [here]. You are trying to have a relationship with the lads. So if Dom wants to do extra free kicks, I want to be there to help him. If Mo wants to do extra shooting, I want to be there to help him.

“You know, Mo Salah is coming to you and saying he wants to do extra shooting - it’s every kid’s dream. For me, I’ve watched him over the last seven to eight years and to build a relationship with Robbo, Curtis, Cody, Virgil…

“I saw these guys last season as superstars. And you come in and you realise that they’re just normal blokes and they’re good people and it’s been really nice to build those relationships. So it’s just trying to find a different role within the team and realising how important it is.”

Excellent performance from Freddie, some great saves and actually confident with the ball at his feet.

I had the impression he was rated highly earlier when he was with Newcastle. I wonder what happened. Was pleasantly surprised that the club had signed him, and happy that he has a good start to his Liverpool career so far!

He was, just settled into being a Football League goalkeeper essentially and could never break in at Newcastle but he’s been a well thought of goalkeeper wherever he has been.

Confident?
I’d say competent and confident.
Shame he got that injury :face_with_head_bandage: but he managed to continue.

Some really good saves, yeah. I do remember his name being mentioned (though that’s not hard when any English youth team does well) in the past as a well schooled goalkeeper, a decent talent. Took him a while to settle somewhere and play regular football, as we see it can be the case with some. I was nervous when it seemed like he picked up an injury, because he doesn’t look physically strong to me. I thought he was a nice capture for 3rd choice considering he finally put together a few seasons of regular football and was only 28 when he signed for us.

But I also see that his contract is until 2026 with a +1 club option (I guess we will trigger that, if we haven’t already, like with Alisson).
