OsmAnd~ is my app of choice for Android. Never let me down, so far at least.

Simpler and less do it all is Comaps. (My default)
Like osMand, you have to download the map, but it also means you’ll have them even without mobile coverage.

There’s also https://cartes.app but not entirely happy about that option in terms of user experience. But it has way better search compared to osMand or Comaps.
I forgot to add, if you’re hiking or going through walking paths, odds are quite big that it will be much better using Comaps/osMand compared to Google Maps.
