German government coalition is basically history. Scholz will trigger vote of cofidence in January, most likely followed by elections.

Because it was always going to be unworkable it did something notable happen?

Ended up being a dispute about funding for Ukraine. It’s not unrelated to the US election as the looming disengagement under the Trump administration puts pressure on Germany to secure its support.
Lindner has committed political suicide and the FDP/Putinists will be laughing.

It’s more of a long looming disagreement over the budget and Germany’s self inflected debt ceiling, which is like a holy cow for the FDP. Lindner tried some budget trickery and that came back to haunt them, as the Court said this is unconstitunial. They’re not particularly anti-Ukraine support.
And of course he general unpopularity of the coalition, which hits the FDP the most, as they currently might not even meet the 5% threshold to have any seats in the Bundestag, so they want to run away from the centre-left coalition back to their beloved Conservatives.

Tbf they are more natural bedfellows of the CDU. In the UK the Tories are the home of both strands of conservativism.
Presumably Lindner is hoping for a CDU led coalition although, as you say, they will struggle to get over 5%.
We should probably take this to the Germany thread, but I’d be interested to know what you think will happen after the no confidence vote.

Hmm uk a full democracy with first past the post and a monarchy?

First past the post is a legitimate electoral mechanism. It has flaws, but so do all the others. As for the monarchy, I am not a big fan, but many successful democracies have one, note Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

Those democracies have rather a very insular population anyway.

How long before she starts to say this is politically-motivated?

Shouldn’t that be done yesterday

How New Zealand does it.

She keeps saying it all the time. In that sense, it’s Trump all over again.

On the other hand, she hasn’t been condemned yet (contrarily to Trump) so let’s see where that leads.

I had BBC Radio 4 on this morning and was only half listening. I thought I must have misheard it but no it’s true. Legalising marriage for girls as young as 9.
