The Rapid Support Forces, formerly known as the Janjaweed (and really is the Janjaweed) was for a time part of the Sudanese army. They are supported directly by the United Arab Emires when it comes to money and weapons. They now fight an exceptionally brutal war agains the Sudanese government (hardly angels themselves, but nothing like the Janjweed who are directly genocidal) and it has raged on for years now. But now they took 2 cities they had besieged, housing hundreds of thousands of refugees and a lot of aid workers. They are shooting all the aid workers and the an unknown number of thousand of refugees.
This is the type of massacres which takes time and are quite personal. They round up people, then shoot them all in a ditch or lock them in buildings and set fire to them. It’s not fighting. Best example is ISIS and before that, indeed the Janjaweed. For Europeans, it’s similar to how the SS destroyed some villages and towns in the east, killing most people and setting fire to the buildings, after the German army had driven through.
You know, shooting more than 2000 civilians in a day. That actually takes some time and effort. It’s not that easy to butcher that many in just a day or two. You have to round them up, then shoot them. It’s not bombs from planes or sector shelling with artillery, this is manual “work”.
